To be fair, the Hivehand was pretty crap anyway. I do wonder what he'll do with the Gravity Gun. I remember the webcomic Concerned where the protagonist (Gordon Frohman) is obsessed with the Gravity Gun during this chapter.

It's going to be interesting once he gets to the final chapter of the game, given you need the Gravity Gun to do anything.

Maybe it's a case of Gordon getting used to it over time, or maybe infusing it with dark energy takes away the kickback?

It'll be interesting to see what he does in Ravenholm, which is specifically designed to showcase the gravity gun. There's not enough ammunition to shoot your way through it... at least not efficiently. I'm not a fan of modding the maps to remove obstacles, but some of them are pretty irritating.

I predict that Gordon is going to love Father Grigori, although I could be wrong. He's only really shown empathy for crazy people and drug addicts (in his interpretation) throughout the series.

I think Gordon will go one of two ways. He'll either a) at least appreciate that Grigori is proactive, and probably cut him some slack given how he's obviously crazy or b) he'll be too crazy even for Gordon, and he'll worry that Grigori will turn on him at any moment.

Poor Ross has declining viewership. It's bullshit, dude's the best video game youtuber there is. Any of you guys know why this is happening?

Ross's vids are high quality, but there's relatively long delays between them. It's not surprising that people lose interest and forget to check if he has new content.

His subject matter is also kind of niche material — Gaming Dungeon after all tends to cover old and/or obscure games. Contrast with other videogame youtubers and Twitch streamers who cover recently released games.

Another issue is that the Gaming Dungeon vids are pretty long as far as Youtube vids go. A lot of people just don't have the time or attention spans to sit through vids that long.

Finally, some people may just be getting weary of Ross using the vids to get on a soapbox about various issues. These people at least want to watch Youtube vids to get away from politics.

Agreed with a lot of that, but idk man I aint never seen Ross talk politics. I still can't tell if he's a Leftist or one of those guys that hangs out on 4chan for too long and accidentally discovers anticapitalist language but spoken by two faced fascist shitheels who when given power would just slam the accelerator on capitalism but with every executive replaced with a white guy

He talks politics and the state of the world in several vids such as his Deus Ex vids. Other times he talks about the game industry. He's particularly angry about the industry killing games with online-only requirements.

But even this relatively little amount of politics is too much for some people who just want to turn their brains off and not think about real issues.

I don't think Ross is losing viewers because of his politics, or at least I hope not. That's a difficult claim to prove.

What he is doing is violating most of the cardinal rules of maintaining a YouTube channel. He has long content droughts followed by bursts of releases. That is way up there on the "how not to do it" guide because it pushes his videos down in the algorithm that feeds users' Home pages.

The only way you'll get those notifications/feeds is if you watch videos from his channel frequently or you explicitly have notifications turned on, and a lot of people won't suddenly decide to watch three long videos (the Game Dungeons).

For myself, I rewatch Freeman's Mind as a comfort food when I'm bored of other content, so that keeps the channel active in my feed. I only watch each Game Dungeon once, though, because it's not the sort of thing that needs repetition to get the message across. I have no intention of playing any of those games so it's more of a "huh, that's interesting" thing than it is any intense interest.

If it weren't for the promise of a new FM every few months, I'd have long since dropped the channel.

I don't really unsubscribe from channels unless channel itself makes me angry somehow, but youtube does automatically unsubsribe channels you don't watch often I think?

Nope. It just pushes them way down in the algorithm. I am still subscribed to Annoying Orange, for example, even though I haven't watched one of its videos in years. I just did a purge of dead channels in my subscriptions, in fact.

If you rely on your Home feed to see new content, it strongly weights channels that you've viewed recently. That can be why it seems as if you don't see any new videos from some of your subscriptions.

For this year's Christmas edition of the Game Dungeon, Ross goes with a game that's a little more recent and not exactly flowing with Christmas cheer: The Division.

After a long, long wait... Freeman's Mind 2: Episode 17. Posting before watching; I'll edit with my thoughts.

So, Gordon is in Ravenholm. He's pretty chill about things since he isn't being actively hunted, shot at, or bombed. Zombies are like a nice vacation. I'm sad that it looks like he won't even try the gravity gun.

Alright, watched it last night. Man, this game looks like such a slog to play. Infinite resource AI, a literal fog of war you have to dissipate with a dedicated unit, units that don't fight back automatically even when being attacked, production and research of units and buildings being way too complex, only three different tracks of music, a HUD that is basically an epilepsy risk...

Out of all the games Ross has reviewed, I think this one may have come the closest to breaking him.

This game did at least try to be an RTS game that doesn't follow the Dune II formula. And at the same time, it demonstrates that different isn't always good.
