......? That makes even less sense!
Yeah, it is really weird. Still, I'll take it over the annoying "too much sun and water devalues your crops" system of the Island games.
I think it is more that on rainy days they don't get enough sun, than making is so they don't get enough water. But that is just me.
There's also the fact that too much water isn't good for plants in real life either, so I get it.
Still, I was a bit confused about the exact crop system, so hey presto thanks.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaYeah, you know, I think that was the biggest mistake the "Island" games made: Way too complicated farming system. Sure, it might be realistic, but what use is realism in a game like this anyway?
Wow, I'm reading about the weather system in that game on Ushi no Tane. Seems like they overcomplicated things. It looks like a harder Harvest Moon overall compared to previous games. I hope this is not included in Animal Parade because I might get that game if I get a Wii for my birthday.
Then again, from what I gather, you don't have to water everyday if the weather conditions are fairly balanced.
"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of TimeOh yes, not having to water every day is certainly a plus. Having the quality of your crops depend on how l33t your favourite FAQ is and a huge dose of luck isn't.
Pro-tip *: Never make a Harvest Moon game complicated. It ruins the Just One More Level! feeling.

Animal Parade uses the old system: Water once a day, and you can make crops grow faster and be higher quality more often with fertilizer.
The main thing that bugs me about AP is that it uses the "one bag of seeds = only one plant" thing from the Wonderful Life games, though it's a small rankle in what is otherwise one of the best HM games.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaYeah, I heard it was one of the best HM games. I'm really looking forward to it. Since I love A Wonderful Life (many fans hate this game...it was my first HM game so maybe that's why I liked it) I probably won't mind planting only one seed at a time.
Also, I'm planning on buying A Wonderful Life again once I get a Wii. Problem is, I don't know if I should get that one or the girl version. The reason I might not get the girl version is because the bachelors are kind of meh...

"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of TimeThe long days are also a problem for me, but some people love those, so different strokes and all.
You could always marry Marlin again if you got An WL.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaBut in that version Marlin is not as sexy xD
Hey, it's a video game so I'm allowed to be superficial. In real life I try not to be.
I do like the bachelors in AP though! I'd say they're actually as interesting as the bachelorettes, which rarely happens. Also, I like how you can raise two kids now and they actually help on the farm this time.
"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of TimeYeah. AP does pretty well for itself in terms of charictarization.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaSo I'm going for a 100% completion run in HM 64. It's going fairly well so far; I'm up to the first fall and I'm still on track for everything. I'm almost to the Harvest Festival, which will involve much Save Scumming to get the damn coin. Anyone know when you have to save before it randomizes that decision? I remember that you can't just reload on the morning of the festival (it's already been picked by then), but I can't remember if you have to go just a day back, or more than that.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I must take over the twon and run it inot the ground
With the power of a dragon I can make up for my inability to spill.I wonder is NA will ever see Twin Villages. I'd sort of like to see it, if only because I've had the idea for alpacas in the HM universe for a looong time (currently, wool is the only product you can get that doesn't have more than one animal supplying it), and it's nice to see it finally happen.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaWool lets see Llamas, Goats, Alpacas, Mammoth would any of them work?
With the power of a dragon I can make up for my inability to spill.Like I said, Twin Villages does have alpacas.
In my imaginary Perfect Harvest Moon Game(TM), each of the three basic animal products has three animals for it, with one "basic" animal and two other ones with other benefits and drawbacks. The basics are, of course, Cows, Chickens, and Sheep. The ancillary milk animals would be Goats and Dzomo (a kind of cow-yak hybrid I read about which apparently gives more milk than cows do). The ancillary egg animals would be Ducks and Quails. The ancillary wool animals would be Alpaca and Angora (rabbits).
...I actually think the new online Harvest Moon game has wool rabbits, but I'm not sure.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaWhat about Ostriches and Silk?
Wool from Rabbets? Thats silly.
I think a Pokemon Havest moon would be cool

It's called Rune Factory.
In other news, I had to restart my 100% completion run of HM64. I thought you could get Elli's picture at any point during the fall, but apparently it's only on the 9th., and I missed the deadline. At least this time around I have a better idea of how to streamline things — instead of killing myself trying to do everything as soon as I can, I'm just gonna focus on getting the pictures the first year and do everything else (recipes, house extensions other than the kitchen, time consuming power berries, etc) in the second year. Fun random fact: the amount of chopping it takes to upgrade your ax to silver is exactly the same as it takes to get enough wood for a kitchen.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. There are a ton of egg animals in HM, more than any other product: Chickens, Silkies (a specific kind of chicken), Ducks, Ostriches, Turkeys, and Quails. For the sake of balance, I had to narrow it down, and I did so due to "game balance" (for a game that doesn't exist, so sue me): Chickens are The Mario. Ducks lay less frequently, but their products sell for more and give more Stamina recovery. Quails lay two eggs a day, but they sell for less (but they can be used as normal in recipes, making them ideal for cooking).
I was never too into the silkworms, to be honest, mostly for Fridge Horror reasons. The way the Angoras would work, they're a bit silkworm-esque: They live in their own hutch, outside of the barns and coops (but attached to the barn once you upgrade it). They give wool at about the same rate as sheep, but don't take up barn space, and, unlike sheep, they don't require sheers and will naturally "deposit" wool.

"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaSO Quills and Rabbits for quantity over quality? What about extra raiding animals?
With the power of a dragon I can make up for my inability to spill.Pretty much.
I figure the Animal Parade system is fine. Although I'm fine with just having one horse; since horses don't give products, there's usually not much call for having more than one anyway. Especially if they take up valuable barn space. I'm oldschool like that.
Although I would definitely use a pet system more like Animal Parade's (where you can pick from a bunch of wild animals), since that's more abouut what animals you like best anyway, and there's not much strategic difference between them. (Well, except for the oddity that is the AP pet Duck, as opposed to the farm ducks, but that's a whole otheer bit o' weird.)
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI never got animal parade. Silk worm, Spider and umm?

With the power of a dragon I can make up for my inability to spill. In Animal Parade, all five of the barn animals (Cow, Sheep, Goat, Ostrich, Horse) can be ridden, with their respective speed being in roughly that order from slowest to fastest. You have to build up their friendship, but once it hits 5 hearts, you can ride them.

Actually, I believe Grand Bazaar does away with the specific Water/Sun requirements from the Island games. Instead, it's like normal, except plants dry up 10 hours after you water them, allowing you to water them twice a day to make them grow faster. However, rainy days only count as one water, hampering their growth rate.
I haven't played enough of the DS games to know for sure, though. This is just what I read on Ushi No Tane.
