Yeah, I didn't even know the song, but it's the opening to Akagi.

The blood refers to the Washizu Mah Jong arc. Little real violence in the anime (there's a bit but it's not a major plot point). Shattering the souls is just another "The narrator is talking about the guy that lost being totally broken about it."

The hint was a bit of a giveaway. literally the only other anime without female characters that I know of is Cromartie High School, which is a comedy so could be ruled out right away. Even Kaiji had one female character in it, even if she was merely an extra.
