Subpage images: High Octane Nightmare Fuel

Unclear as in it doesn't reveal what's going on, or unclear as in blurry? If the former, I figured the idea was that this kind of image didn't really need to show what was going on, and if the latter that's kind of the point; Flass is being looked at from under the influence of Crane's drug. IMO, the ones of Dent are probably the most impactful.

I'd say either Joker smirking with a gun in hand or one of joker's victims.That is, if there is a consensus to change the pic in the first place. Either way, I think this discussion about the dark knight saga's picture has gotten large enough to warrent it's own disscusion

Well, let's see what others think first. I'm trying to keep High Octane Nightmare Fuel subpage image discussions in this thread so that people discussing one subpage could look at the approach taken to the other subpages; it's interconnected after all.

For now, this thread will be about The Legend Of Zelda`s HONF page. The current image demonstrates the trope alright, but I wanted to see if any of the following would be better. On a sidenote, part of the idea is that using a screenshot is preferable in and of itself.

I don't think a battle scene would be all that frightening, considering how spontaneous it is and how Nagato really doesn't even bat an eyelash during it.

Except that what I linked to is not of the battle. It is of Yuki getting impaled graphically by several spikes, and then remaining calm in it. (It's almost Dissonant Serenity except without the smile.)

I really like the Masque of the Red Death picture (Especially since its symbolism is completely in-line with the story).

Here are my five cents. The Comic Books subpage image is more Black Comedy or Crosses the Line Twice than HONF, IMO. How about something from the weird tales-age of comic books?
The Video Games subpage isn't scary at all. The 'cute dolphin player character' is a bonus point, but still.. How about something from Amnesia The Dark Descent (like this one◊) or Limbo (Hello◊)?
Also, I'm for... Maybe not NF and HONF merging, but some kind of change. Not because the line between them is fuzzy, but because the names don't make sense. Intentionally scary is much more common in fiction than unintentionally scary, but the name of the trope for the former makes it seem like a subtrope of the latter.

... what.

Perhaps it's Fan Myopia, as I grew up with that game, but it's a disembodied bald green head with huge black fissures for eyes and huge jaws. It's also in a very dark background, save for the stone walls. I'd say it's scary enough... seeing as how I suggested that one for similar reasons I had for using the Star Wars one, would you consider that one to not be scary enough either?

And that is the problem. It should be the picture itself that draws attentiontion to the nightmare fuel

...How the hell can you miss the giant green eyeless alien head? I noticed it before anything else in the image!

@neo YT Pism YMMV but that's not really frightening, as moreover disturbing.

I think those two are close enough that it still works.
