You are making it seem like Ridley is some sort of untouchable God figure from the world of videogames when he's just a recurring enemy in a second tier Nintendo series.
I honestly cannot fathom what would be so terrible about making him playable.
YOU DO NOT EVER IMPLY OR OUTRIGHT STATE THAT METROID IS SECOND-TIER. EVER.

I would love to play as Ridley.
So, should we re-rail this topic to Metroid again?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! You humans are both amusing and crunchy.
Well, amusing, at least. You only become crunchy after I roast you over an open fire. But you taste good with mustard.
I know what you're thinking. No, not ketchup. That's what them silly dragons eat.
There is nothing wrong with ketchup.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Little known fact: Space dragons don't eat ketchup. It doesn't scream nearly enough to be appetizing to them. ... Back on topic, what do you want to see in the vaguely hinted at and possibly never coming Metroid: Dread?
What is Metroid Dread? You've mentioned it before, but I kept thinking of some modded version of Super Metorid...
Its the supposed sequel to Metroid: Fusion that they were working on, but then said they stopped, but then name dropped it in an easter egg in Prime 3, but claimed it didn't mean anything...

Let's be blunt here. If Metroid: Dread did exist, it's either been canceled or turned into Other M. Retro's moved on to Donkey Kong, and the way Nintendo talks about the future of the series, they have nothing planned for it at the moment.
Other M apparently had disappointing sales, and the second two Prime games both sold very little compared to the first.
So I'm hoping to God that N Intendo thinks the Metroid audience is still profitable.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Re Other M: How is Castlevania Lords Of Shadow doing? I know it has similarly taken a plot-and-visuals-heavy approach to a traditionally gameplay-heavy series, though it's less of a change for that series than for Metroid.
Re Prime series not selling well: Perhaps this time they'll wait until fans are totally dying for something, at which point they will have quite a lot of demand to draw upon for sales.
Alternatively, they could probably do an updated rerelease of Metroid II at relatively low cost.
Its been said very specifically that Other M was not Dread and that Dread is not coming soon, but has never been canceled.
Frankly, after the trainwreck that was Other M, * I'd be all right if Ninty waited a good while before the next one.
Prime 2 actually sold more than Other M, despite being released in the same week as Halo 2 and Half Life 2.
Which is just strange. Other M had more advertising and the biggest competition (Reach) was a few weeks off.
Maybe it's the style of advertising? I found the "I am Samus Aran, and this is my story" commercial full of narm.
I thought the advertising for Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion would work pretty well in comparison.

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Word of mouth, is my guess. Whatever you think of it, it's a highly divisive game, and I'd imagine that gave a lot of people pause about outright buying it.
Heck, I denied OM a sale by giving my copy to someone who loved it, and another one in Europe by ranting about it to a friend and fellow Metroid fan. *twists invisible mustache*
Ever heard of slow-burns my friend? To quote my friend: "Just look at Viva Pinata, which looked like a massive failure till people noticed that it kept selling about the same every week after release and never had a big decline for a long time. "
So far, the Other M's sales have been catching up since holiday seasons. Plus, why are we even talking about sales in the first place? Oh yes, because when I want to think of video games, I want to think of some cigar-chomping capitalist cackling to himself in delight.
Also, "Trainwreck": You don't know what you are talking about, buddy. Stop using words you don't understand.
And let's stop it here before Mr W shows up and derails this topic once again.

Perhaps it will slow-burn. I hope it doesn't, because I'm a vindictive bitch and the game pissed me off. No, it's no Big Rigs or Zelda CD-i, and has some pretty awesome moments, but placed in the proud legacy of the rest of the series? I'm callin' trainwreck.
Call me when Samus is back to sardonic comments like the emergency pistol thing.
The lava whale was awesome, though. And I really liked seeing Mother Brain's Spaghetti-O lasers in 3D.
Gotta love killer space-dragons.
I wonder how much it hurt when Samus shorted his wings out in Prime.
If anything, you'd expect Other M's sales to go DOWN after the first few weeks, what with being very divisive; word of mouth only begins to spread after the game is released.
And of course the sales are going to go up during Christmas; ALL game sales go up during Christmas.
Compare Metroid Prime 2 and Other M.
Metroid Other M Sales Metroid Prime 2 Sales
Prime 2 sold more in the United States than Other M did in this time, which is the country where Metroid sells the most by far; outside is unknown, but unless the International sales of Other M are dramatically more than those of Echoes, there's definitely a problem. Keep in mind that Echoes was released in the same week as Half Life 2 and Halo 2 and was released on the Gamecube. A Metroid game sold on the Wii should not be performing that badly.
The only conclusions I can come up with is: Something went wrong, or people just aren't buying Metroid anymore. While the first is fixable, the second is not, and I would be really disappointed if the second was the case.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.You forget one major factor.
Prime 2 was released in 2004 (Japan 2005). The economy was doing pretty well back then.
Other M was released right into the midst of a MAJOR economic recession—mid 2010.
I'd have to side with GMH on this one. Jigglypuff and Captain Falcon gained their Memetic Badass status through their playable status in Smash Bros. Ridley's moveset would really have to live up to the hype.
Besides, I get the feeling that Ridley would have a rather awkward and clumsy moveset. Kind of like Charizard, Dedede, and Bowser.
