You're going to hate me for saying this. But I hated this film.

The cinematography, soundtrack and character interaction is excellent. Just like every other Darren Aronofsky movie ever made.

But it pissed me off, otherwise.

I took away nothing from it. Absolutely nothing.

^I can see how that would bring down the movie/make someone not like it, TBH. Now that it's been sometime after I have seen it, my biggest problem with the film is that it was kind of predictable for me. I sorta knew where it was going. I still liked it, but that does drag it down some for me.

I knew the main character's life was going to turn to shit. Its Darren mother fuckin' Aronofsky.

But the fact that it's meaningless to me and I can no longer care about the main character once she becomes an Unreliable Narrator just drove me away completely.

^ a possible weakness to the movie, but notice:

The movie is perfectly reliable in the beginning, but the weirdness starts *after* she got the Swan Queen. As the movie progresses, the narrator become less reliable, reflecting her deteriorating mental state. Right before the big night, she is completely broken (symbolized by the broken music box), but by now it doesn't matter. She lives only for the performance, and she is not stopped by such petty things like "reality" and "sanity". She has completely let go and become the black swan. What's real or not is meaningless by now. Her life is now the performance.

[up] Somehow reminds me of The Stranger. I don't know why.

I loved it for exactly those reasons. I enjoyed the pic mindscrew and unreliable narrator etc. I even really enjoyed the nightmare fuel (and no, not in a fetish fuel way, just in an excellent movie and great symbolism and visual metaphor kind of way).

I watched this movie last night, and I have to say, I though it was very, very good. I've never seen Perfect Blue, but I love movies like this, so that's now next on my list.

Nuegh! I've accidentally gotten my fingers smashed, so I, I couldn't even, that was terrible. And it was just so sad to see her mom there anyway.
