I'm gonna preface this by saying that I've never played Minecraft:
I was pleasantly surprised. This is the second fighter were I wasn't initially disappointed by it not being Neptune. (Joker and Plant don't count because I didn't even know what Neptunia was when they were revealed)

Can't say that I'm unhappy with this character choice. I still like Minecraft a lot, and while we all know that its creator is a very undesirable person, the game has flourished so much without his presence that separating the artist from the art shouldn't be an issue. After all, it could be worse in that regard, we could've gotten someone like Earthworm Jim. Hopefully I'm not jinxing it.

I've never played Minecraft, either (I've played maybe 10 minutes at a friend's house years ago), but I've seen more than enough gameplay to appreciate it.
Here's a rough idea for a moveset I made for Steve two years ago. It's a bit basic, and the actual moveset looks a lot better and more fleshed out, but I kind of hope his block mechanic works something like this. I do still like the idea of grab being the Fishing Rod.
It's been about an hour since the reveal, so I'm sure there are a bazillion fanfics out there already.

And then I immediately burst into laughter like I did when Sans' Mii costume was revealed.

As soon as I saw Mario crash through a blocky cavern wall and wind up in complete darkness I had my suspicions, and then the spider eyes glowing in the distance confirmed it for me.

As someone who never played Minecraft, I didn't recognize what the game was until I saw the blocky silhouette. I was trying to figure out what sort of horror game was being represented.
