I'd say everyone was surprised. Even those that wanted Joker in knew he was one hell of a long shot character. Yet... here we are.

Still really surprised Joker was part of Nintendo's list given to Sakurai. Threw a wrench at the worries over Nintendo going with overly safe picks.

Ultimate has sold 3 million units in 11 days making it the fastest selling Switch game.

In hindsight, it wasn't too surprising that Joker was chosen over Yu because 5 is actually the best selling Persona game.

But, again, I was thinking that 4 had higher significance a la FFVII.

I remember when it was revealed that Nintendo themselves picked the DLC line-up, everyone's reaction was basically "okay, so it's just going to be nothing but plain predictable picks, which means that Bandanna Dee, a Gen 8 Pokemon, and a Fire Emblem Three Houses character are practically guaranteed".

Cut to Joker being revealed and Reggie is all "the upcoming DLC is nothing but completely unexpected and random picks, characters no-one would expect to ever get in Smash".

I think the weirdest thing I've seen is people saying that Joker's reveal was totally moved around and he wasn't meant to be first.

What's the logic behind that? They even recorded dialogue specifically for the reveal at the Game Awards.

I mean I'd just wait for the four other characters to get revealed first.

I don't know about that but I do think he was revealed too early.

I totally predicted that the first DLC character would be revealed at the Game Awards, by the way.

For the record, these people are saying that somebody else was meant to be the first DLC character (usually somebody from SE) and they moved the order around... presumably because of "leaks" or something.

Ah, the people relying on leaks. Clearly, the leaks can't be wrong, so reality itself must be! Even I relented that the Grinch leak was fake once Incineroar was revealed, and I had completely bought into the Grinch leak.

Anyone remember the crack theories about Isaac being revealed in the August direct but he was taken out because of the Earthquake that happened a week before?

Don't forget the Skull Kid chair shit. That I actually supported and regret doing so.

I think it was supposed to hit towards Galeem and Darkhon, at least that's what I heard.

The hints i took for the potential Skull Kid inclusion was the missing AT and the sudden introduction of the moon. Also the fact that Yink's final smash was unknown at the time.

All to be anticlimatically revealed AFTER the november direct. Like, Shadow at least got briefly shown, the skull kid crowd only find out after checking the AT selection.

I'm forgiving of people believing in the chairs thing because it was semi believable,they did show a skull kid figure which add credence to the idea of a playable Skull Kid

I'm just glad they quashed the idea that they will hint at characters prior to their reveal.

So, about that part where you play as Master Hand. Can you do that anywhere else, can you play as Crazy Hand, can you play as the rest of the bosses, and if not, I really hope they add that in. Playing as Master Hand was one of the most stupid fun things I've ever done in Smash.

YES. Just being able to go ham as the Hand felt like a typical game of Dynasty Warriors/Hyrule Warriors, where you're in charge of an obscenely powerful character and thrashing mooks left and right. It was easily the most awesome part of the campaign.

Nope. That's a one time thing.

Sakurai really brought back every single playable character if you think about it. Except Final Smashes

I never understood why the Moon meant anything for Skull Kid. The Skull Kid AT never used or referenced the Moon at all. They were always separate.

Some of Palutena's custom specials didn't come back, so in a sense a character with those specials didn't come back either. I'm lowkey hoping for another Kid Icarus character or two that has them so I can spam Lightweight and Jump Glide again, despite how unlikely that is.

Also by virtue of some Mii costumes being cut (mostly the third party ones) then characters like Gil or Lloyd Irving didn't "return" as well.

Finally got all the Golden Sun Spirits. Man, while I love how many they included (8! Isaac, Isaac from Dark Dawn, Garet, Ivan, Mia, Felix, Jenna, and Matthew), it's painful how little cohesion between them there is. Like, they barely even tried to give them any way to work together.

Isaac, Garet, Mia, Felix, and Matthew are all Primary Spirits, and Jenna and Ivan are Support Spirits. Matthew, Felix, and Jenna are all Advanced Rank, while Garet, Mia, and Ivan are only Novice Rank, and Isaac for some reason is Ace Rank and can be Enhanced into his appearance from Dark Dawn (where he's just a tutorial NPC) which is Legendary Rank.

It also feels like there's no cohesion between the abilities of the characters. Garet's Skill boosts Fire Attacks, Mia boosts Water Attacks, Isaac boosts Energy Shot Attack/Resistance (which does very little for the Isaac Mii Fighter), and Matthew and Felix do nothing. On the Support end, Jenna boosts Shooting Items and Ivan boosts Magic Attacks.

I wouldn't have as much of a problem with this if there wasn't an actual mechanic that gives you a boost when you have Primary and Secondary Spirits from the same series, and it feels like I would have to really stretch to get that boost and it would be hard to justify combining all of these seemingly random and unrelated boosts.

If it were up to me, Garet and Mia would also be Support Spirits, and Isaac would have a Skill that actually worked with the Mii Swordfighter's attack options. Garet would boost attack at the expense of speed, Mia would have some healing ability, and Ivan would boost speed at the expense of defense, so all of them combined would give Isaac a boost to all stats overall and he could actually go around with his full team supporting him. Also, change Jenna to something else so that she could support either Isaac or Felix better.

Also, get Felix and Matthew up to Ace and boost Garet, Mia, and Ivan to Advanced Rank, it's weird for the latter three to only be at Novice.
