Beer AND Sake, redundancy much? Okay not really because sake is rice win but still.
Anyway, yeah I see her that way to.
That awkward moment where Kyoro is one of Satan's Generals.Just felt the need to clarify: beer is usually flavored with hops, while sake... isn't. I don't THINK there's a law against it, but it would be unusual. Point being: Suika loves sake. But beer is always a nice change of pace.
I sure said that! She just loves getting drunk, and has never been sober for centuries. And partying, she always loves parties to.
It just occurred to me that the fact that there are no drinking laws in Gensokyo is the fact that there are no vehicles in Touhou, plus they can fly.
That awkward moment where Kyoro is one of Satan's Generals.Suika's flight path must be quite wobbly.
I sure said that!I always thought it looked more like swimming.
IN SAKE.
I sure said that!Manipulation of density to turn the air around her into sake for her to fly/swim through
That awkward moment where Kyoro is one of Satan's Generals.Jesus turned water into wine. Suika turns air into sake. Beat that, Jesus
Sometimes I even amaze myself. Currently: Nice and sneaky likeThere are a couple of vehicles in Gensokyo: Komachi's boat and Byakuren's flying temple.
Heart of StoneThough the boat is more symbolic than anything, and the temple doesn't get used much for travel anymore.
I sure said that! There's also Rika's tanks, although technically those don't move anymore
Sometimes I even amaze myself. Currently: Nice and sneaky like...I am now worried that parts of the Touhou fanbase are pony-level internet cancer in terms of how far they spread... (THAT'S what I mean by cancer, BTW. They spread INCREDIBLY quickly and almost everywhere.)
Reminds me of what The Game was like seriously, one guy at a robotics competition our robotics team was at, made everyone, including the Mayor and Governor lose it, that's right our states governor and mayor know about The Game too.

That awkward moment where Kyoro is one of Satan's Generals.I refuse to take part in it. Simple as that.
I just don't think of it.
That awkward moment where Kyoro is one of Satan's Generals.People make such a big deal out of losing, but what's the real penalty? Not getting to play it anymore? Boo-hoo.
In all seriousness, has Kisume's ACI been finalized yet or is this thread going to continue in derail mode?
I'm not sure what you're asking. What does "finalized" mean? If you're referring to me linking all the things everywhere and stuff, I'm holding off on that until the semester's over (which will be about two more weeks). I'm not sure what that has to do with a "derail mode", though. That seems to be a result of most people not knowing what to say about Suika.

It's true, I can't really think of anything to say about Suika other then that her theme rocks. I can't even talk about the oni in general because we did that in the Yuugi thread.
Well, I shall endevour to try. I think Suika is in the same vein as Yukari: powerful but extremely lazy. Unlike Yukari, however, she will occasionally display her abilities just to show off (broken moon incident, gathering everyone in Heaven), because she is an oni. She's a lot more deceitful then Yuugi, relying on harsh words and half-truths to hide her true motivations.
An interesting thing to note is that her mist diffusion can be easily undone by Yukari, who encloses the mist in a barrier then constricts the boundaries into a Suika-shaped ball of mist. She is also outsmarted in both fighting games by Patchouli, who sees through her gathering spell. Remilia claims that vampires are mightier then the oni (to be taken with a grain of salt, obviously, but they share a weakness to roasted soybeans). Yuyuko addresses her as 'child'. Perhaps she is not as powerful as she claims.

Heart of StoneGenerally, the more powerful a creature is in myths, the more weaknesses they have. Vamps being a prime example, and I don't see how onis would be any different.
"Seriously, don't eat the mermaid. And not just because it's half cannibalism." ~OtherarrowOh, I think she is that powerful, it's just that Gensokyo is full of powerful people.
But the humans refused to change
Suika is perhaps one who is unable to let go of the past. She was ostracized from the underground because of a lack of sincerity (for an oni anyway) and came to the surface. After watching she decided to reverse the oni's self-imposed exile and lure them back up to the surface by making all the humans and youkai and whatnot have a continuous great time. Such a fabulous time that the fun-loving oni wouldn't be able to resist, would come flowing out of the underground, take Youkai Mountain back, and reestablish their presence on the surface. Everything would be like it once was.
But it didn't work. Maybe the other oni just didn't notice all the partying. This is entirely possible. Yuugi didn't mention it to Suika in SA. Another possibility, equally likely, is that the oni are perfectly happy in the underground. They've established a new life. They've settled in. They've put metaphorical butt grooves into their couches. Yuugi doesn't mention the continuous partying because it just doesn't matter to the oni. Maybe its something they commented on "upstairs neighbors being a bit loud today" "cool, rock on" but its nothing worth poking their heads out the window, metaphorically, and checking whats what.
Or maybe, the plan was always doomed to fail. Because everything would be as it once was. A mere continuous partying can't erase the reason why the oni left in the first place. Its been so long that humans have forgotten oni somewhat. Maybe Suika hoped that oni would forget humans somewhat. But humans haven't changed. The basic situation, the environment that made the oni leave in the first place hasn't changed. Humans are still flawed, deceitful, afraid of power.
Maybe when Suika takes the time to take a critical look at the player character, its not just an oni's brutal honesty. Maybe its resentment. Resentment that her plan could never work, not in the short run and not in the long run, because humans haven't changed. Ignoring continuity enigmas, she looks at Alice, a human(?) who became a youkai and she sees a deceitful coward. Someone who shies away from the powerful, holds back her own power not for sport but in fear.
And maybe that's why she moves up to heaven. Dealing with Reimu is fine. She's brutally honest for a human, strong, and faces danger. But dealing with the rest of Gensokyo? All those lying and cowardly humans and youkai? So she moves up to heaven where the humans are less, well, human.
Tangentially, its kind of weird that Suika is friends with Yukari since Yukari is very much a deceitful character. Maybe she's more honest to Suika or maybe Suika just respects her power.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI liked that! I think I might have to headcanon that!
My theory is that when characters like Yukari and Marisa are so consistently and predictably mendacious, it's basically the same thing as being honest to an oni.
Why are we whispering?

Ya know, I always liked to think of Suika as a loveable goofball who wanders around the Hakurei Shrine pretty much at random, helps out a little, and every now and then, she says an incredibly wise and meaningful sentiment that reminds everyone that she's still one of the Four Devas.
As for that plot of land in Bhava-Agra; hops grown in heaven taste absolutly wonderful in both beer AND sake.
I sure said that!
