Well, some games these days do get stuck in an eternal beta stage, releasing as a beta and then never really finishing up the game. I think that's a bad direction to move in.
You wouldn't accept a half finished movie, either, right?
Optimism is a duty. When the new DL Cs for Stellaris come out, I should do a playthrough as a lithoid megacorp. I'm gonna call them the Rock-a-Fellas.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. Why not just call them Homeworld?
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.So do Terravores have their own unique ai personality or dialog or government type?
You wouldn't accept a half finished movie, either, right?
I cannot think of a single example of this happening.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnProject Zomboid and Dwarf Fortress (technically).

Yeah, Dwarf Fortress is still in development and still going strong.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.That's not an "eternal beta stage", they're complete games whose developers simply have decided to continue developing them.
This is exactly the kind of mindset I was criticizing earlier, ideas of "feature complete" and "betas" work for some games but when we're talking about development styles that involve years of development then they paint a misleading picture.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnProject Zomboid isn't complete as far as I'm aware. It launched on Early Access because the team had a release date in mind (and failed to meet it multiple times), but they don't consider it complete yet as far as I know.
Dwarf Fortress is an odd beast.
Eh, Dwarf Fortress is NOT a complete game. It might have enough features to qualify for some, but there's no win condition, there's game breaking bugs all over the place, and it has a stated road map for feature complete status that includes 100 power goals. That's where they get their release numbers from. We're currently at version 44.12 which means we're on the 12th bugfix for the version to reach 44 power goals. Sometimes those bugfix patches include new features that reach a power goal and we wind up with a new front number.
Fine, but that isn't true of Paradox games.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnThe original comment was a joke, and we were specifically replying to your comment that
"Feature complete is a phrase that only makes sense for games that have normal pre-release development times and then little changes post-release."
And my reply here is because tone doesn't come through online outside of emotes and word choice, so when you say the word fine to start a reply, I take it how people always use the word fine around me. They're out of sorts and saying it to drop the subject. No attacks or annoyance intended here if we did put you out of sorts.
Yes, but as said, we were replying to your comment about "feature complete" games, not the stuff about Paradox.
No no, it's fine.
I was a little annoyed but that was silly, you were points were fair.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnI turned a criminal syndicate into my subject, now they're paying me tribute. They established branch offices in my commercial ringworld segments (roughly 500 trade value per segment) so I am getting a lot of energy credits that I wouldn't have otherwise if not for the criminal syndicate. I am taxing an one-planet minor for 500 energy credits per month because I am intentionally letting them criminally exploit these segments. This must be a case of Not the Intended Use
Well, that's the thing. You're taxing them on the loot that they're stealing from you. I don't see a problem with it.
You're outsourcing your crime.
I despise hypocrisy, unless of course it is my own. It's better than outsourcing the real jobs.
Basically you're taking kickbacks from the mob.

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.Good, Angsty Neji types confirmed.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."
Yes! Yes! Good God was I waiting for that years ago.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, maybe we should try to find the absolutes that tie us.
I wasn't really thinking about anyone here when I said that, just putting out my thoughts on feature completeness and how they work with games like these.
