I imagine Federations will be that long-awaited reworking of federations to make them actually be useful, unlike how they are now.

Lithoids looks cool, though. I imagine they'll do really well on Barren worlds and stuff like that.

I mean presumably its the diplomacy dlc in first place so presumably not only federation stuff gets expanded?

Apparently they’re code named “rockstars” and “hugbox” respectively, which is hilarious

Not just hilarious, the second one is a well-established term often used in the Dev Clashes (whenever a bunch of devs in the same region buddy up).

Crusader Kings 3 was announced

Screenshots can be found here and also here a link for theGame Vision Statement from the developers.

I am kinda excited about this but, of course, need to see more to be sure.

I edited my post above with a link with a couple more screenshots. The one that interested me the most is this one. It is there to highlight the event, I assume, but what caught my attention is the political map. In particular, look at France, It is 1066 but its territory is minuscule, just the directly owned crown lands. And it is not a map mode thing because the other large realms (HRE, Denmark, Scotland) are all shown whole. If I am not mistaken, France was remarkably decentralized at this period and it could be that all the dukes and counts in France are independent to showcase that, but that seems a bit extreme. I am hoping then that they have added more nuance to the vassalage system, allowing realms to be virtually independent but still vassals of another.

This feature alone would make the game worth for me. The binary vassalage of CK2 was always one of its weakest points, as it can't accurately portray the nonsense that is the feudal system (there was some features like the dejure vassals still voting or tributaries, but they were poorly developed).

So, here's something a bit silly:

Apparently Paradox confirmed that the phrase "Deus vult" won't be in CK 3, likely because of how it's been used by literal fascists etc for a few years now.

While this does seem a tad silly - after all, it's a phrase coined by crusaders and the game is still partly about the crusades - the community subreddit's now visited by the usual suspects whining about "political correctness", "muh historical accuracy" and other buzzwords the alt-right loves to use so much.

Anyone else wishing we could enjoy grand strategy games without fascist trying to ruin it for the rest of us every bloody time? :/

Huh lithoids apparently have mechanic were they eat minerals instead.

In retrospect its kinda weird that fungoid and plantoid eats farmland food as much as all other species [lol]

[up][up]It's annoying how I can't use "Blood and souls!" anymore without it being confused with "Blood and soil!".

So yeah. I understand their decision even if it's kind of silly and annoying.

[up]Hm. A system for plantoids to eat energy (as bioforms, not machines) could be cool, though if I were being a science pest, I'd say that it would be very hard and evolutionarily useless to sustain a human-level intellect using just photosynthesis, so the most likely plants to attain sentience would be carnivorous plants.

Fungi would have farms, they'd just look very different from animal-run farms.

Knew that baby wasn't going to survive the trailer as soon as I saw it [lol]

Tha interface doesn't seem too different from the second one, certainly not like the difference between it and the first, but I'm already happy to see lifestyles show up in one of those screenshots, implying some of the DLC are going to make it to the base game this time around.

Maybe I won't have to spend a small fortune to make the game properly interesting this time around.

Stellaris Federations has also been formally annouced:

  • The new Federations come in 3 flavors: Trade, Military and Hegemony

  • Galactic Community: apparently a separate system which lets you put down laws and sanctions on other empires.

  • Origins: Two new have been announced, the long awaited Void Dweller and one were you have a Tree of Life on your home planet (Life Seeded 2.0?)

  • New Constructs: Juggernauts which are mobile star bases capable of mobile repairing and a Mega Shipyard Megastructure.

On the Steam page of the Lithoids Pack one can already see one of their unique traits: 0,01 monthly Exotic Gas per pop.

There is also a picture of a devouring lithoid swarm with a new planetary decision to consume the world which will apparently turn it barren but produce minerals, alloys and pops.

[up][up]Base CK 2 is good, but somewhat limited. It also gets repetitive after a while, with most playthroughs being basically the same. The DLC offer a lot more stuff to do. My opinion is that it's absolutely possible to enjoy just the base game, but the DLC make it infinitely more fun to play.

I was just reading this very thread in reddit, I suspect. And boy is it exhausting. I mean, yeah, it is a bit silly, but it is not like that this one sentence is actually all that important. But dozens of weird assholes are threating it as a great censorship. As someone mentioned in the thread, if Paradox hadn't say anything, I doubt anyone would even notice.

Is base CK 2 any good? Or are DLC a must?

Last I checked it was playable and fun, that was a long time ago, but still, I think if you keep yourself to Europe it should work fine. And the game is free now, so you might as well check, I think.

[up] I can guarantee you that most of the people complaining are part of a very... particular subset of gamers.

Seen the same shit happen multiple times before, in both the CK 2 and Total War subreddit. Something minor happens, subreddit gets flooded by far right culture warriors.

Paradox really has a morbid sense of humor sometimes. Of course, if CK 3 is anything like CK 2, then what happened in the trailer is not even close to the worst thing a player can pull off.
