Does anyone know a free/cheap VN with deep characterization a la "Doki Doki Literature Club" or "Katawa Shoujo?"
Freeware:
- Everlasting Summer, for computers and mobile devices.
- Butterfly Soup, for computers. This story received a sequel just a few months ago. Look into it if you like specific settings and LGBT Asian characters.
Technically free:
- Mystic Messenger, which is a mobile exclusive. This story isn't just about meeting Korean guys who plan parties.
Not free, but worth trying:
- Across the Grooves, for computers and Switch. The Steam edition is $13 US when not on sale. I'd compare this story to a low-key, artsy independent comic. It may lack hype or spectacle, but it's worth trying.
- Planetarian, for computers, Apple devices, and Switch. This sci-fi / romance story is $10 at most.
- Seabed (by the company Paleontology), for computers and Switch. Digital editions cost $20 at most. If you've ever thought "can visual novels tell a story about an adult couple?" then this story will provide a good answer.
There's a great VN with amazing atmosphere called Tiny Bunny. The story is set in late 90's Russia and it's about a kid who tries to solve the mystery of disappearance of children in his small town. If you are into horror or just dark stories with a heaping dose of plot twists, give it a try. Be warned though, this game features many disturbing themes and is not for the faint of heart.

Meow meow meow (I am just a lil’ hungry cat, I have nothing to do with a certain guy who hired an assassin)
Last week, I read Soul of Sovereignty for the first time. It only has an hour-long first chapter right now, but the writing and art both impressed me.
I've been making a page for it, but if anyone else with a bit more site experience has any noteworthy contributions, please feel free to pitch in. ^v^
So anyone try the demo for "Slay the Princess"? It was interesting enough that it might be the first VN I buy in my lifetime.
Disgusted, but not surprised
