Something something prophecy, something something killed by a younger brother.

Or is it younger sibling? I can't remember if the word used was gendered or if its a case of people assuming masculine as default.

[up][up]It means younger brother. Prince that was Promised was the one that relied on a lack of gendering. Just the question is if it will be Jamie or Tyrion.

Maybe she is really pregnant and she dies from a pregnancy complication. Thus killed by her children's 'younger brother', as they were the subjects of the first line of the prophecy.

"Gold shall be their crowns and gold their shrouds. When your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you."

[up][up][up] I think the fact that the prophecy says "the Valonqar" and not "your Valonqar" could provide a twist that makes it anyone's Valonqar, not just hers, like [up][up] mentions. I think another popular theory is Jon Snow is the Valonqar in question, being the younger brother of Rhaenys and Aegon, since the word used was in Valyrian, instead of just plain Common.

It could very well coincide with the "Then comes another, younger, more beautiful, to cast you down and take all you hold dear" part, with the younger woman in question most possibly being Dany, especially if she and Jon have resolved their little Targaryen issue by then.

How does Jon Snow being the valonquar play into Cersei's story and Jon's story?

It doesn't. There's no impact from it.

It's gotta be either Jaime or Tyrion because of how it affects them too.

[up]Same.

Like, cool, an unexpected twist, but the relationship between Jon and Cersei is non-existent so the death moment just wouldn't mean anything.

Meanwhile, the 'Queen more beautiful' doesn't actually need to be anyone significant to her. It adds to her paranoia if it could apply to LITRALLY ANYONE. It says more about her character that way. Is it Margeary? Is it Sansa? Is it Dany?

Personally, I think the most interesting answer would be Sansa since everyone assumes it is Dany. I actually would really love to see Sansa and Cersei see each other again after all of this time and how much they've both changed.

Hmm, if we assume the prophecy must be referring to either Jaime or Tyrion, then taking it at its word would mean it must be Tyrion, yes? Can't wrap hands if you've only got one.

But as noted the use of an article instead of a possessive, and gratuitous Valyrian, suggest the prophecy might not be so straight forward on this point.

If I recall Jaime was born after Cersei, so that also technically makes him a younger brother.

Plus its not a particularly interesting prophesy if it's obvious who is being described. "Oh, Tyrion is the one who'll kill me? Guess I'm saving up to hire an assassin for my wedding day and make sure he's dead before I ever have children." Now we have either a useless plot cul-de-sac of the prophesy having no way to ever come true even in metaphor or we have to go into some 'can't fight fate' trite just to justify not wasting time on the plotline.

Or, like, Cersei OBVIOUSLY thinks that Margeary is the younger and more beautiful queen that will usurp her power, but the audience is privy to so many other stories like Dany and Sansa (and Talisa/Jeyne, though I don't know if we knew of that prophesy before their deaths/exit from the story) that there are arguments out of Cersei's sphere of influence for who the queen is.

...Come to think of it, a young girl from a long line of brothers being told that one of her siblings will murder her and trying to take them out could potentially be an interesting story on it's own. Things to ponder on.

Most people whose theories/opinions on the subject I've read are so convinced that Jaime is going to kill her, that I started to feel like it actually being Tyrion is a better twist. There are a lot of prophesies (at least in the books), and we expect every single one of them to not be interpreted properly. So it actually being this straightforward will be surprising.

I want it to be Jamie too... But I want him to die as a White Walker first. It would be a culmination of everything Cersei was awful as queen and be unexpected. She raised a man from the dead as a zombie only to be killed by one. She ignored the White Walkers for her own petty squabbles only to be killed by one. And she set out to murder her brother, after her actions lead to ALL of their children's deaths, even successfully killed him maybe, only to then have him return and murder her.

There'd be something so cathartic about it.

I can see her sitting in a room in Kingslanding as the city is invaded. She's sitting at her chair drinking wine and the door opens. She thinks its Tyrion and starts monologing. But it's not, it's Undead-Jamie, who attacks her and eventually kills her. There'd be something so cathartic in that.

Well, tonight's episode was entirely Benioff and Weiss surrendering to the fandom.

Good thing it produced one of the best episodes in the series.

  • I'm very glad that Dany called out Tyrion on how ridiculous his falling for Cersei's lies is.
  • Likewise, I'm happy that Jorah nipped the Dany/Sansa rivalry in the bud.
  • I am very happy that Bran is indeed trolling Jaime.
  • Theon and Sansa's hug made my heart melt. It's a pity that there is no way in hell that Theon is not getting Redemption Equals Death next episode.
  • Daww at Arya and Gendry hooking up. I could have done without the nudity though.
  • That entire fireside chat was great.
  • Finally, "Jenny of Old Stones". Did we ever get a rendition of "Last of the Giants".

Predictions:

Theon is probably going to die. The Hound will live for Cleganebowl. Grey Worm, Thoros, and Ed are probably dead. Tormund probably will live to lead the Free Folk, but I could see him dying. Sam and Gilly better live. One of the Stark kids is going to die: I want it to be Bran, but it's probably going to be Arya. Jon dying for good would be an excellent mid-season twist, but they're probably not going to do that until the finale.

My predicted deaths are Beric, Grey Worm, Edd, Brienne, Theon, Lyanna Mormont, Jorah, Ghost, Viseryon, and the Night King

My predicted lives are Daenerys, Jon, Sandor, Sam, Jaime, Tyrion, Tormund, Davos, and everyone in the Crypts.

The ones I think could go either way are Bran, Sansa, Arya, Gendry, Podrick, and Bronze Yohn Royce.

If I missed any, let me know.

[up][up] Jorah tried, at least, to diffuse the tension between Sansa and Dany. It was going somewhere, but then Sansa brought up the future, to which Dany had no answer. If anything I think the rift between them just got wider; they both realize they're kindred spirits, but neither of them want to back down in what they want for their respective people.

God damn, Grey Worm throwing up those death flags. Theon and Sansa reuniting was heartwarming, though from Dany's expression, I think it made her realize that while she may have the Ironborn's pledge and alliance, the only reason Theon and his group returned to Winterfell was his loyalty to the Starks. I think it's a good follow up to the aforementioned scene between Dany and Sansa, in which Dany is realizing that the Greyjoys' loyalties are going to be tested if she goes to war with the North and that chances are, they're not the only ones.

Here are my predictions....

Jamie is so dead. And Tyrion bringing up 'march south and kill Cersei myself' also just was ham-fisted foreshadowing since he's even talking to Jamie in that scene. He might die protecting Brienne or just in front of her. And ONE of those two needs to survive to make due on Bronn's season plot.

Theon will die protecting Bran who will then die to the Night King in front of one of his siblings. Nothing more to do with him and we have Yara around still to lead the Iron Islands.

I don't think Arya will die either. Too cliche to kill off the ones who just had sex and I think there's an obvious reason they established again that Gendry is the last of House Baratheon. It's also noteworthy that Robert's lines IN THAT CRYPT were "You have a daughter. I have a son. Let's join our houses" and... Well, they joined.

I don't think Sansa is dead just yet. There's too much potential out of the gap between Dany and her having just widened further when they all have to retreat South or to Pike. Plus I still want to see Sansa and Cersei meet again.

Berric has a target on his head but... more for lack of whatelse to do with him. Same with Ed. I don't think the Hound will die. Had he and Sandor interacted last season? Sure. But since they didn't as far as I remember, no.

And I know no one will like this but... I think either Jorrah or Sam will die. Interchangably though. Jorrah will either die protecting Lyanna or Dany. Lyanna is where I'd put my money. I say Jorrah because I feel like his story is mostly over and he's been basically just playing support for awhile now.

Sam more because his death would also REALLY rock Jon, and especially if Dany does as she did tonight with calling Sam and Bran into question. With both dead, Jon is now far more vulnerable. I don't want Gilly to die instead because I think that'd be far too much Woman in the Fridge. However... if they feel brutal, I could see the kid dying. Ugh...

And killing the kid would be heartbreaking for Gilly and Sam having to survive it while also illustrating that Lyanna, even though she survived, COULD have died since Infant Immortality wasn't at play.

I think Greyworm will die too. If I were a writer, I'd kill Missendei instead and actually have Dany and Greyworm interact again on the context of mourning if because that feels more interesting and new and vulnerable, but I think Greyworm is who they'll kill off instead.

Podrick I think could go either way. I WANT him to live but it also feels like the song could be his send-off. Tormund could go either way too. Suppose it'll be based off of how many they've killed off by the time we get there. I think Varys is another toss up. His absence gives me pause but I also remember the Red Woman telling us he has to die in this country. Might depend on if she'll come back this season or not. Davos is another toss up.

So... My death tally is:

  • Bran
  • Jamie
  • Theon
  • Berric
  • Ed
  • Jorrah/Sam/Little-Sam
  • Greyworm
  • Podrick/Tormund

And I have no idea if the Night King will die or not. He might, but the losing land thing is already built into the opening titles and it would feel like a drop of tension at this point if we get to deal with Cersei on an even field. However, they could pull a Dragon Age and the Night King-ness just passes to the next available person... or just straight to the Dragon.
