No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

We know what did it though, that beacon thing that went off during the Heresy. Is that the same planet?
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.The Pharos Beacon, yes.

Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. It's not the Pharos beacon then, unless Sotha underwent an Ullanor-style renaming.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.Or Maybe found something related to it.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"The Pharos Beacon was discovered and destroyed on Sotha, and considering that navigation through the Warp in the Dark Imperium is one of the chief reasons it's currently a nightmare realm, Cawl could very well be looking for more beacons.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.Okay then. I thought the Pharos beacon was actually on a planet named Pharos.
Shows that I need to get back into reading the Horus Heresy books.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.So Cawl's Great Work could be about improving intersteler travel, interesting.
Anyway, today's Battle Sister Bulletin: Painted Sororitas Rhinos
The Rhino◊ is the most ubiquitous vehicle in the Imperial armoury, regularly used by the warriors of the Adeptus Astartes, Adepta Sororitas, Inquisition, and even the Astra Telepathica’s Sisters of Silence to transport their squads into battle.
Given their functional purpose as armoured personnel carriers, Rhinos are seldom adorned beyond identifying paintwork and iconography. However, the Sisters of Battle lead lives of utmost dedication and treat even these utilitarian vehicles with great respect. As such, Sororitas Rhinos are often decorated with filigree and other ostentatious, or holy, accoutrements far beyond those of other Imperial institutions.
If there was any doubt as to the level of craftsmanship applied to the Sororitas Rhino by their artisans – by which we mean our talented team of miniatures designers – check out this optional hunter-killer missile…◊
Amazing, isn’t it? The heart of the Sororitas Rhino kit will be its upgrade frame, which is chock full of components to dedicate your vehicle to the service of the Sisters of Battle. As well as arched viewing ports for the driver, double-sided doors with embossed details and fleur-de-lys towing lugs, there are loads of other intricate details too.
You can decorate the flanks of the Rhino with gilded filigree, the armoured exhaust casings with hanging parchments, and add icons from any of the main Orders to show its allegiance. There is even a relic weapon that you can attach to the vehicle’s hull – after all, what better way is there to consecrate a holy blade◊ than by spilling the blood of heretics?
Here is a second painted Rhino◊, featuring a gunner aiming the pintle-mounted storm bolter and a variety of alternative details.
Another interesting element that features on this version is the memento mori◊ mounted to the rear. These morbid reliquaries display the skull of a fallen martyr with one half of the face covered by a ceramic death shroud.
If the Sororitas Rhino looks this good, just imagine how awesome the new Immolator and Exorcist miniatures will be…
While I did like the old Mk.IIIa Mars-pattern Rhino with the glass dome, I am loving the look of the extras for these ones.

Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellOpenly drools.
I note that they tease that the Excorcist and the Immolator will most liekly be the next models to be teased. They BETTER keep the organ gun.
I was generally hoping for more hair variations in the plastic release, although we already have more than I was expecting by a long shot (just by having them at all). I think long braided ponytails would fit their aesthetic quite well.

"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."I actually like the Sci-Fi Bob Haircut a lot but would be interested in some Sisters with bald heads that aren't Repenta.
The thing I would like to see most before the release however is some of the models in colour schemes other than Our Martyred Lady. The red Bloody Rose scheme and the silver Argent Shroud schemes in particular.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellDouble post for the second Psychic Awakening preview
…behold the Klaivex of an upcoming PLASTIC Incubi set!◊
The Klaivex’s impassive mask somehow projects a murderous intent, while his wide, ready stance provides a real sense of menace. Attached to his armour’s rearing spines, you can see the smashed spirit stones of the Aspect Warriors that the Klaivex has cruelly plucked from those fallen to his blades. One of these sacred stones is mounted on his brow, represents the first spirit that the Klaivex claimed in battle and to grants him entry into the Incubi temple.
The Klaivex also bears a demi-klaive◊ – the signature weapon for an Incubi warrior of his rank – which can be wielded as a single, fearsome weapon, or divided into two smaller blades for tearing through more numerous foes…
As the deadly fighting elite of the Drukhari, Incubi are sure to be a popular choice, and the new miniatures certainly do them justice. You can look forward to seeing the full unit and learning more about them soon.
That is another great model.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellPlastic Incubi are long overdue.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."Maybe I just got used to the better-proportioned Primaris, but that guys looks like his head is too big to me.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Maybe a smidge, but that's how Heroic Scale works. Primaris are certainly a step towards True Scale compared to the rest of the range.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."Also Aeldari have always had tall helms.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellOh, the Eldar are about to have a Bad Time.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. When are the Eldar not having a bad time?
You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents. The last time they were not having a Bad Time they were ensuring everyone else were having a Bad Time. The old Aeldar Empire was some seriously bad shit.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI like how, when 40K feels like being on point, it comes back to this running theme that empires are kind of shit.
You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents. The Tau try to present themselves as not shit, but they're definitely shit. Heck, they're arguably the most insidious present day example since they are still in the expansionist colonialist phase as opposed to the decaying phase like the Imperium.
Disgusted, but not surprisedThey've also got that paternalistic "we know what's best for you" worldview, very reminiscent of RL imperialism and colonialism.
Did the Imperium ever purge non-hostile alien life during the Great Crusade? Or did it just so happen that almost anything non-human they came across happened to be dangerous and hostile?
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."It happened to everything non-human and some things human if they were too close to the non-human at the time. If a human planet had been tainted by centos, it was no better than a xeno planet to the crusades.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireIn Horus Rising, they meet a human/alien alliance that was peaceful (right up until Erebus fucked everything up). Horus's decision to negotiate and learn from them rather than subjugate them on the spot and kill the xenos part is considered weird.
In Fulgrim, there's another human/alien alliance, the Diasporex, that only wants to be left in peace. It gets exterminated because the human portion did not instantly side with the Imperium.
You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents.Yeah, Great Crusade was normally "If you're not with us, you're against us".
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.And aliens were automatically "against" even if they were peaceful? See, I already knew that they'd subjugate any human colony that were against reintegration, and but the rationale I always had in my head for unilaterally wiping out all aliens were that they were all (or at least for the most part) very dangerous. I don't get the Emperor's rationale for being such a massive asshole other than the fact that he was just a massive, MASSIVE asshole.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."
Necron tomb would be too easy, so I'd guess Men of Iron or something.
I have read that whatever is there is implied to have drawn the Tyranids to the galaxy in the first place so I don't know if it would be Men of Iron.
