No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...

I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?

Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

[up]Up next is one of my favorites-I think Traitor General is probably my 3rd favorite book after Necropolis and The Warmaster.

Yeah, I've really liked what I've read in the sneak peeks of Traitor General so far; all that worldbuilding stuff like Gereon and Aexe-Cardinal are some of my favorite parts of Abnett's writing.

Epic Adeptus Titanicus: Warlord; Boards; Knights; Reaver.

Horus Heresy Praetors: Blood Angels & Alpha Legion.

Necromunda: Cawdor Gang; Van Saar Weapon Sets; Orlock Weapon Sets

With all the talk I've been hearing of Kill Team, when it comes out and I know the rules I kind of want to build and paint up a Catachan kill teem, mostly just to collect because I dunno who plays 40k in my area. Mostly it'll be a fun modeling/painting project to collect, but I want it to be KT legal too. I'm gonna source some third party bits from a few different sites too.

Canonically is it ever established when's the earliest the Emperor of Mankind is known to have existed? I know concrete evidence of his existence dates back only to the Age of Strife, but I'm wondering if there's a date, like 29,700 AD or something

[up]Depends on the story-the earliest confirmed story dates back to just after the start of the Age of Strife, so that would be around M23-M25. If Pius is telling the truth, then the Emperor is nearly as old as he is; and was born around 8,000 B.C.

Just pre-ordered the Kill Team boxed set, the Sector Mechanicus Killzone, and the Astartes starter Kill Team.

I think that'll give me enough terrain to make a really claustrophobic board for the default size!

Plus some Primaris Reivers, which I don't have any of yet.

I ordered it today as well. I could only got the main set however, its been another expensive month for me.

I wasn't planning on buying the Killzone or the Astartes starter (at least, not straight away), but I decided to go for it when I actually took a good look at the game board and got some ideas.

Some of the squads feel unbalanced, fluffwise. Five genestealer neophytes vs five Space Marines?

While Space Marines are actually fairly cheap all things considered, I highly doubt GS Neophytes cost as much as Marines.

I'm... Not actually sure where you're seeing a Genestealer Cults starter with five models. surprised

The base set is genestealers vs skitarii. It looks like the genestealer models might not necessarily be neophytes, though.

EDIT: Ah! The pictures I saw were misleading. There are actually 10 of 'em!

[up]Some of the Mechanicus certainly evoke the imagery, and plenty of them dabble in questionable medical practices and experimentation. Pretty much anyone who reaches Magos is mostly metal unless they are a Genetor, so the visual aspect is a short jump. As for profession, even the Genetors who would specialize in such biological work are shown mostly with grills/osmotic gills/respirators, so an elongated one stuffed with sensors is not too far out there.

The Cawdor are up for pre-order this coming weekend for Necromunda and Warhammer Community have done their usual faction focus.

House Cawdor is populated by scavengers, scrap farmers and bone-pickers, bound together by the holy word of the Redemption. By far the most populous of the Necromundan Clan Houses, though also the poorest, the House of Cawdor sifts through the rubbish cast down from the hive city, finding treasure amongst the trash and trading it back to its former owners. It is a distasteful but vital role within the ecology of the hive cities, and one the House has jealously claimed as its own.

Doomed to a lifetime sifting through midden heaps, the citizens of House Cawdor nonetheless take great pride in their labours, taught as they are that by their suffering they are blessed. This is the foundation of the Cult of the Redemption, and while more cynical minds might see it as merely another means of control, those brought up on its teachings see it as the only chance they have to earn a place at the God-Emperor’s side.

The gangs of House Cawdor are much like the unwashed masses they were recruited from, each one a murderous ragman willing to do whatever their masters require. Necks hung with nooses, weapons covered in nails and coats draped with lit candles, a Cawdor Ganger bears all the hallmarks of the Redemption and its tenets of doom. Being the poorest of the Houses, however, means Cawdor weapons often leave something to be desired, most carrying refurbished autoguns, scavenged stub pistols, or knives and clubs cobbled together from scrap. Of course, this has also made Cawdor gangs inventive when it comes to finding ways to kill their fellow hivers, and their arsenals include crossbows that fire all manner of munitions, an abundance of cheap flame weaponry and even bombs taped to the backs of rats! Perhaps the most iconic weapons wielded by the Cawdor are their polearms. Fashioned to mimic the blades carried by Imperial saints (as pieced together from images found on shattered stained glass windows and the torn pages of holy texts), these ramshackle weapons are perfectly capable to taking an enemy’s head off with a well-aimed swipe or unleashing a torrent of bullets into their face – sometimes both at once!

Other Houses and their gangs tend to look down on House Cawdor, though the smart ones never underestimate them. They might not carry the biggest guns or most advanced tech, and individual Cawdor Gangers might be on the scrawny and undernourished side (even by the dismal standards of Necromunda), but they fight with the fury of believers and, like rats, for every one you can see, there are three more lurking in the shadows. Cawdor Leaders hold a special place among their crews, even more so than most gangs. Usually carrying some cobbled together icon of the Redemptionist Cult, they are the rallying point for their kin, driving them at the enemy and keeping them in the fight when the bodies are piled three deep. In time, a Cawdor gang might even rise to the notice of the clan’s word-keepers, earning a benediction from the Thane of Cawdor himself and taking their eternal place among the scrap-saints of the Redemption.

I do love the pseudo-medieval look of the models.

Was cawdor always poor? I remenber being monastic but if I remenber well, their thing was "cult of redemption but bigger".

Also I could swear their olor was red.

[up]They were blue although they were often shown wearing it over red. As for being poor, they always had a medieval peasant/religious fanatic look to them and I guess the new edition decided to go full on with that image by making them poor as well (although looking at their 2nd Edition House Weapon list, there highest tech weapon - other than the laspistols and lasguns that are the signature weapon on Necromnda as a whole - was the Heavy Bolter where other gangs got lascannons, meltas and plasma weapons).

Double post for the Games Workshop annual report.

Well, the graph speaks for itself, really. They discovered the power of actually listening to the clients and doing anything resembling a marketing strategy. The revenues have obviously gone way up this year, but all this investment means earnings grow in more or less the same rhythm. Let's wait for their next moves and hope they keep doing this.
