And from the last panel it seems that it wasn't Ventura that was doing the hacking, or at least not all of it.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpAh, so shoddy programming on Petey's part along with emergency life(?)-saving measures.
I mean, wasn't it established that Thurl isn't on the level of Ventura or Kevyn, but he's still capable of working with AI systems with some level of skill?
The look on his face in the last panel tells me that Elizabeth's throw wasn't exactly an accident.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Yes, Thurl was the company's electronics specialist before all the others has shown up. Furthermore, I think he is the one most commonly seen cooperating with Ennesby on hacking activities.
^_^ From the Planet Mercenary perspective, Thurl has survived more missions and therefore has a lot of accrued skill points that let him transcend the normal caps.

Aren't their minds supposed to be massively slowed down?
Yeah their clock is running pretty slow in relation to outside world. Tagon's 20 minutes conversation lasted twenty days.
Petey doesn't look pleased.
I personally think he should look terrified.
I personally think it would look rad as hell, and should be recorded for later viewing.
Petey, there's a very wide gulf between "don't" and "shouldn't," and it's best to keep that in mind.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I feel like most of the annoyance would be in the "their psyches won't be ready to put into their clone bodies, and there will be such a snit if I admit to directly fixing them instead of letting their brains develop naturally" camp.
Petey, you're intimately familiar with how these people's minds work. Do you seriously think that being angry with them is going to change anything? Oh, I guess you do:

Situational awareness IS a useful tool.
Well, welcome to the Brass.
"You can reply to this Message!"I think that's why Liz's eyes are bulged out in terror in that last panel.
Who wants to be an officer, particularly a staff officer, at that?
Wait a minute. The narration references the ship as "Broken Wind". Didn't that get changed to "Breath Weapon"?
Edit: Yeah, most recent previous reference was on the 21st.

Well, I guess if the Oafans repossessed it, the original name would be restored as well.
It also wasn't the original name, but a name given by the crazy AI. Furthermore, it is the same name, just different translations of Oafan into Galstandard, and the new translation is given by an Oafa.
In that case for some reason it just slipped Howard's mind, or it's setup to some big twist incoming.
For certain given definitions of "better".
Well, ideally, one shouldn't be able to be fired for following orders, especially ones that high on the chain of command and ones that don't have any ethical issues attached to them. But poor Liz is stuck with Permanent Oh, Crap! Face, and who could blame her?
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.
I suspect that Petey put a relatively light level of hack countermeasures from that end of the firewall on the theory of "oh, it's not like they can cause that much trouble in there," which would immediately go under Tempting Fate if he actually said it in the comic.
