Fun at parties, eh?

Read my stories!"And make parties more interesting" - well, someone's Leaning on the Fourth Wall.
My posts make considerably more sense read in the voice of John Ratzenberger. Is presumably in reference to the new comic at http://egscomics.com/comic/tsos-46
To be fair, we've seen transformation used at two parties (Grace's birthday, and the Christmas party with Not-Tengu). One was interesting and one was terrifying.
I sometimes think that Shive's writing two comics - the one he remembers and the one we read. Because I would not refer back to that party as "interesting," and I really don't think Grace is remotely charming here.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I for one very much enjoyed "Grace's Birthday Party." I know some people give it flak for being "just" everyone talking with each other and no bad-guy fights, but the arc is where Shive really came into his own in terms of characterization and especially character development.
And as for "the one he remembers and the one we read" — who's this "we?" It's preferable not to assume everyone has the same overall opinion of the comic.
That's a little disingenuous. While the opinion may not be universal, a quick sweep of this thread (let alone other commentaries on EGS) clearly shows that I am not alone in my opinion of the comic - thus, "we" is the appropriate pronoun there. Just because it is not the universal "we" does not mean it's improperly used.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Writing charming characters is. difficult. But yeah, this interaction definitely speaks of some of the weirder parts of Shive's writing. Not immensely so, but it is there.
Read my stories! The birthday party was, I think, a clear case of Writing for the Trade — it's great to read now, when it's done and you can read it all at once, but it must have been such a pain to read one strip at a time over however many days.
... Well, a lot of the comic is like that, but the birthday party was especially like that.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.Hahahaha... I did not see that coming. Well played, Willis. This is an Ashley for people who don't like (canonical) Ashley.
I think the birthday party arc is pretty decent as well. Imo, Shive is significantly better at smaller character-focused moments than he is at larger character-focused arcs, and the party was basically just a collection of those.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I liked the birthday party arc too.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Eh... I don't think it'll stick. Give it two comics at best before she reveals it was just an act and she's really really sorry she had to do that.
Will be nice if it's her actual personality this time around, though. It'll be the most interesting her character has ever been.
I have mixed feelings on the party arc. It had some better points due to playing to Shive's strengths, but there was a Lot of hamfistedness, and it was hard to accept certain parts when it was clear Shive really didn't understand certain things.
Read my stories!Don't verbalize.

Prudent denuded.

On the bright side, plot and Mr Verres. On the other hand, Tedd.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Eh, Tedd is only really there in this strip as a plot device (namely, to strongly hint that this guy was a wizard and not a seer), so I have no problems with him in this one.
Part of me feels like Edward is about to essentially berate Grace for sticking her nose in where it doesn't belong... except that the reasons he would do so aren't the reasons Grace should have it. And in fact, due to the mild transphobia Edward has demonstrated, he's totally the worst person to be coming down on Grace at this time (I think, more likely than not, she's going to let it mostly slide off).
Let's be fair; only Ninety is saying it now. And even while I disagree in this particular case, I get why they'd react that way.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Okay, in all seriousness, Tedd appears for two panels, for one spoken line, in a place it makes logical sense to be, and we're already going "TEDD BAD!!!!!...?
Seriously?

Hey, I'm not saying Tedd has done anything wrong or unnecessary, here. I just don't like him.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Tedd's not even here as a plot device just yet. Right now, he's just here because it's his house and his girlfriend and it wouldn't make sense for him not to be. He does raise the point about Seers, but that's not really a point that matters much to the overarching conversation, as Mr. Verres points out. That's just Shive's typically methodical "Explain every possible circumstance" method of expositing the mechanics.
Tedd might do important stuff later in the conversation but for this page, he's scenery. Present because it makes more sense for him to be present than not to be.
Like the couch! The couch doesn't contribute much to the conversation, but if they were just sitting on thin air, it'd look pretty weird.
