This is the thread for discussion of The Order of the Stick plot, characters, etc. We have a separate thread for discussing game rules and mechanics. Excessive rules discussions here may be thumped as off-topic.

Nope. 2d6 per caster level (and this being a level 6 spell, the caster is minimum level 11 for 22d6) unless they make their Fortitude save, in which case it's reduced to 5d6. And either way, if the target dies from this damage, they're Reduced to Dust.

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. So assuming Redcloak is level 18, an unsaved disintegrate has a damage somewhere between 36 and 216, middle values being more likely. The lower limit is way below Durkon's total HP, while the upper limit is way above it. As actual damage taken is determined by plot convenience, not real dice, it puts things into the "anything can happen" territory. However, a second disintegrate would probably kill Durkon.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.People keep surviving his disintegrates
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youGood fort saves and/or high HP. Though those generally go hand-in-hand.
And since those do go hand-in-hand, trying to Disintegrate Durkon is a terrible waste of a 7th-level spell that could have been saved for Vaarsuvius or Haley.
And that's a Domain spell. Redcloak only gets one 7th-level Domain spell per day, and he just burned it on a beeftank that could survive even after a failed save; guessing by the look of Durkon after the spell that he took a rather lot more than ~18 damage. IIRC Unless he slotted Disintegrate into his 8th or 9th-level Domain spells, that's it; no more Disintegrates today.
At least Implosion would have instant-killed Durkon if he'd failed his save (and has a 2-point higher save to make); Disintegrate couldn't even guarantee that much.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I mean, he could cherry-tap Durkon to death at this point.
He's also not very conservative with his spell slots. He once burned a disintegrate on Roy too, without even bothering to follow up on it
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youClerics don't usually have any decent long-range spells, though (Destruction could work, but Durkon is warded). A better spell would probably be Blade Barrier or Flame Strike, but he wanted to keep Minrah alive.

RC might really want Durkon dead at this point, because he knows things that RC can't afford to be shared with Xykon.
So does Oona.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Since you brought her up, I just wanted to say how much I like Oona's character.
She's very endearing generally and I like characters that are chaotic, but instead of being hyper are very even-keel and act like they are the Only Sane Man even though they are in fact pretty zany. Like the Swedish Chef of the Muppets for instance. Who has at least one thing in common with Oona, since she says "Okie dokie" too. Probably similar taste in food as well.
RC probably believes that Oona is under control. Nevertheless, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a conversation between them which highlighted a certain difference in perspective.
RC probably also believes Oona to be beneath Xykon's notice, unlike Durkon.

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."You’d think Redcloak of all people would’ve learned not to confuse “not knowing” and “not caring” by now.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableRedcloak is the dictionary definition of not learning from his mistakes.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Think that is the function of the already discussed "body and brain of a teenager" thing.
NVM.

Redcloak comes off here as being used to fighting people so well below his notice that they go down in a single hit.
Hell, the only person in Azure City who gave him any trouble dying was O'Chul (and that one dude with all the uses of counterspell), and he wanted O'Chul alive.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. While I appreciate that point, hasn't he been fighting high-level challenges for DAYS now?
He mostly seems to be focusing on buff/protection spells.
And those aren't people, those are monsters.
And he had Xykon with him.

Gotta love clerics. They're hard to kill.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"This is getting to be an Overly Long Gag. The good kind, I mean.
