Meh, it's Star Wars. You can find a blaster lying around anywhere; place is lousy with them.
Growing up steeped in Star Wars literature and video games, I always considered this scene one of the most jarring, Early-Installment Weirdness bits of A New Hope:
Luke: Lock the door.
Han: And hope they don't have blasters.
Because, like, of course they have blasters. Everyone has blasters. "My opponents not having blasters" is not a realistic thing to hope for. It's not even an unrealistic thing to hope for. The only people who don't carry blasters carry lightsabers instead.
Of course, C-3PO's response is, "That isn't very reassuring," which just becomes a masterful bit of understatement when you think about it this way.

To me, "only a master of evil" is the Early-Installment Weirdness. With the later lore about the Dark Side, some variation on "lolnope, you're a slave" (to your passions, the emprah, etc.) would mesh better.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Episode 1732: Pacifist Aggression
(Annoyed grunt)Nicely called, Keybounce! Yeah, Cassian in the original is a cold-blooded sniper.
Episode 1733: Moonlight shadow
(Annoyed grunt)Okay, I'm not buying R2 having the ability to fire the Peace Moon.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"About Keybounce's last objection (that Jim claiming he came up with Bria/Jyn's backstory and character arc is inconsistent with her starting off as an NPC): I think the intention was that the GM mentioned Powerpoint once just as a joke, then when Jim took over as Bria he expanded that joke into the entire reason for her conflict with her father. But I'm not completely sure; I'd have to reread to see just how many times Powerpoint came up before Jim took over the character.
Episode 1737: A Shot in the Dark
(Annoyed grunt)Keybounce again pinged on the actual film's plot (Tarkin wants to end the leak of data from Scarif with extreme prejudice) in musing about something that happens completely differently in the strip.
Episode 1738: A Burning Question
(Annoyed grunt)Keybounce still thinks there's a large amount of time between the end of this movie and the start of Episode 4 when it's actually like, an hour, at most.
"Got any marshmallows?" See, that's a pretty believable bit of RP. I like it.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"And they did get mentioned, in a throw away line by Princess Leia. Thats where this movie came from.
That, and the Opening Scroll. "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."
Rogue One is possibly my favorite Star Wars movie. It's got all the SW OT tropes, all condensed into one incredibly tight package, and it flows so smoothly into ANH.
Also, I'm still unbelievably amused by how much better it was to have watched this on a small phone screen after having seen it in theater, because the smaller image is a perfect disguise for the CGI replicants errrrr I meant replicas for Tarkin and Leia.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youEpisode 1739: A Stunning Conceit
(Annoyed grunt)Amazing how they managed to maintain Cassian's "pacifism" even to the last minute in this continuity.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I was giggling for days about how they sheared the top of the tower off, when they could have simply aimed at its base. That would have immediately destroyed all the facilities without forcing them to wait for the Wave Of Doom to sweep the facility.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youMy thought is that they did aim for the base, and this is well within the margin of error. The Death Star isn't really designed to target anything smaller than a large city. (I was going to say "a planet," but remembered Jedha.) It's only the second Death Star that has refined enough aiming to drill capital ships.

The film doesn't explain how Cassian got up there or found a blaster, either.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
