• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • Olive Oyl, who is writing the script the short is set around, is writing what would now be called a Self-Insert Fic.
    • This actually explains why she is given the pink slip by the end.
  • Meta example: The tale of Aladdin was later adapted for Faerie Tale Theatre hosted by Shelly Duvall. Duvall also portrayed Olive Oyl in Popeye.
  • The last thing the villain says as he's defeated is Help! I'm a Fish.
• Sequelitis: Fans of the three Popeye color specials consider this one the weakest of the trilogy, largely for its generic villain, a fairy tale tone that was very different from previous Popeye adventures and the general absence of gags, and the lack of three-dimensional backgrounds.
• Values Dissonance: The Princess' (Olive Oyl) blackface guards and the blackface Popeye (Aladdin) sends up with the chest of jewels. Though unlike the ones used in the Famous Studios cartoons, the scenes featuring these characters have been kept in all airings, not to mention this cartoon has never had the dishonor of being banned like the 3 Famous Studios blackface Popeye shorts. Interestingly this is the Popeye color special that is aired the least compared to Sindbad and Ali Baba so those scenes might have something to do with it.
