• Anvilicious: Don't get an abortion, or you could either die or become barren for the rest of your life. To the movie's credit, in Lois Weber's time, illegal, or "back-alley," abortions were rather risky and quite often resulted in destroying the woman's ability to have any more children. It is left clear at the film's end, where Mrs. Walton is rendered sterile by a long-term overindulgence in abortions.
