Unwanted Houseguest

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Is the Houseguest really okay with Doctor Wolfula being a Card-Carrying Villain, or is he just so lonely he puts up with it for companionship? Or does he realize that Doctor Wolfula's help could be a matter of life-or-death in some situations?
    • It isn't clear how much Doctor Litchfield knows about the Houseguest. He apparently used Electroconvulsive Therapy on at least one of his other patients, but hasn't used it on the Houseguest. Is this decision arbitrary, or is he aware that the Houseguest can conduct electricity offensively, as he did to re-light Owl Head Lighthouse.
  • Designated Hero: The Houseguest doesn't really seem to care about evil that doesn't affect him personally. He seems only slightly uncomfortable with his friend, Doctor Wolfula, openly torturing Ghoulash.
  • Designated Villain: The Creepy Clown riding a bicycle in Episode 29 of "TRUE Scary Stories." There's no indication he's doing anything villainous or even illegal, he's just out at night in an isolated area, and dressed in an unusual manner.
  • Growing the Beard: Began with the introduction of "TRUE Scary Stories" giving the Houseguest a more consistent appearance and personality. Doctor Wolfula's introduction as a recurring character to give him someone else to interact with, and the introduction of Chapter Videos to more directly tell stories really leg it tale off.
  • Padding: Three story reading videos, and four music videos elapsed between the phone lines being cut and the Houseguest going to investigate. Each of the story reading videos ends with the Houseguest saying that he needed to go deal with it.
  • Pandering to the Base: A positive example. After the fans responded well to the Shadow Demon Arc, which had served mostly as a backdrop for otherwise standalone videos, the Litchfield Asylum Arc clearly had far more effort put into it, and multiple serialized videos that were purely about the Arc, without any music or story readings.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: "TRUE Scary Stories" that aren't based around the supernatural tend to be this.
