- Awesome Art: Horses are infamously difficult to animate, but this series knocks it out of the park, being filled with unicorns that move realistically, have recognizable expressions, and are visually distinctive. A similar amount of work went into the backgrounds, which are both fantastical (meaning they require a lot of imagination on the artists' parts) and gorgeously atmospheric. The horses' manes and the human characters' hair also look pretty decent most of the time, considering how difficult hair is to realistically animate in CGI.
- Friendly Fandoms: With My Little Pony (Generation 5), another equine-centric fantasy series.
- Just Here for Godzilla: Some fans of Ana Sani (who voices the character Crimsette, as well as the My Little Pony character Izzy) watched Unicorn Academy to hear more examples of her work.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Some fans interpret Ava as being insensitive towards Sophia's desire for emotional distance and/or her anger when Ava accidentally interrupts Sophia's reunion with her father.
