YMMV / Tom vs. Jannanigans

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: Janna being an Adaptational Nice Guy and having a Adaptational Angst Upgrade either makes her more relatable or makes her feel Out of Character with her show persona.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: The first three chapters are more complete stories than the rest of the series, just to put it lightly. The first three chapters were all around 9-11 pages each, while the subsequent four were all around 4-6 pages. Not to mention from Chapter 4 onwards, the story was a lot more rushed, passing quickly from one crucial element to another in comparison to the first three chapters that were slowly building the relationship between the characters in individual adventures.
  • Protagonist Title Fallacy: Despise what the title suggest, the story is more focused on Janna than on Tom.
  • Tear Jerker: Janna discovering Tom and Star are together.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Since Marco and Star are both Out of Focus during the series, it never explored how Marco and Star were feeling about the Janna/Tom relationship. In fact, neither find it out by the end of the series.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • With Chapter 5 starting to expand on the events of Season 4, it means it will never show other posible events in the series from the first three seasons, like "Bon Bon the Birthday Clown", "Club Snubbed", and "Lake House Fever" for example, which could be interesting to see from the perspectives of Janna and Tom.
    • The ending happens immediately after the events of "Cleaved" with Tom and Janna together, meaning it never explored what happened with them immediatly after the Cleaving or how Star and Marco reacted to them being together.
    • Some were just disappointed that this older comic from MoringMark wasn't this continuity's take on Tom and Janna's first kiss.
