YMMV / The Year Santa Went Modern

Go To

  • Disproportionate Retribution: Near the end of the poem, we are told that Slick "No longer was foreman, / But had been demoted / To back-door doorman". On one hand, it's satisfying to see Slick get his comeuppance for trying to tear down the symbols that form Santa's holiday identity. But doesn't Santa himself have a significant share of the blame? Shouldn't this venerable icon of Christmas have been wise enough to know why he does things the way he does, and to know better than to blindly follow the advice of an underling?

  • Tear Jerker: Some children (and perhaps even some adults) must have wanted to cry at seeing a version of Santa willing to consider trading in his faithful reindeer, and then readily accepting to strip his appearance of all the distinctive features that make him his familiar self.
