YMMV / The Panti Sisters

Go To

  • Narm Charm: It's a very campy movie, but is enjoyable and well-made.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Martin del Rosario, who portrays as Daniel Panti, would later star in Voltes V: Legacy as Prince Zardoz.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: No other LGBTQ+ identity is properly explored or even acknowledged in the film.
    • Daniel comes out as nonbinary to his parents. He says that he's not a gay man, because he's not even a man; he's not a trans woman either. Yet he is still described as a gay man in later scenes, disregarding this pretty revolutionary scene in mainstream Filipino cinema where a character describes themselves as nonbinary in explicit terms.
    • There's also some evidence to suggest that Daniel may be bisexual, but the film takes a No Bisexuals approach. (It's sadly common to Filipino cinema.) Bisexuality is never mentioned, not even when Gabriel literally marries Kat. Although it's platonic and Gabriel is clearly gay, it isn't even mentioned as a possibility! Gabriel simply says he "hasn't turned straight" just because he married Kat, as though people can only be either gay or straight.
    • Rosanna Roces (Vilma, Samuel's mom) has a wife in real life. However, characters who are lesbians or bisexual women aren't shown in the film at all — not even as background characters. (There are several gay men who are introduced as background characters.) "Lesbian" is only ever used as a euphemism for gay or effeminate guys who decide to date women. It's easy to imagine Vilma being a lesbian or bisexual, but nope. Nothing.
