YMMV / The Mermaid Princess's Guilty Meal

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice: Take The Little Mermaid (1989), with talking, sentient fish, and then have Ariel regularly cannibalize her undersea friends, and you have a hilarious manga.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Despite not intending to, Ela saves Ryo's family restaurant from getting run out of business by exposing Sug's fake fish burgers. She's out by the ocean despairing that she'd never be able to escape her addiction to seafood when Ryo shows up, sincerely thanking her for what she did and offering to let her stay at his place if she has nowhere to go. Despite her confusion, Ela is clearly touched.
    • Sango's overjoyed reaction to Himada inviting her on a date.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Shark the Ripper's vision of Ela, surrounded by the skeletons of her victims.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • By chapter 4, Ela is consumed with self-loathing, having locked herself in her room. She ultimately has a full-blown Heroic BSoD after eating Kisumi the whiting as tempura; she declares herself a monster and flees the undersea kingdom.
    • Himura throwing himself a birthday party all alone. Despite trying to put on a strong front, he's crying Manly Tears. Luckily, Sango shows up, followed by the Maid Cafe staff who throw their beloved manager a surprise party.
  • Unintentional Uncanny Valley: The various Art Shifts can be this, especially in chapter 2: the highly-detailed appearance of Kiyoshi Kimura is borderline Gonk when compared to the rest of the far-more-stylized characters.
  • Vanilla Protagonist: The titular princess herself exists seemingly solely to show off her Erotic Eating. She does few things of notice and has a rather bland personality, while most of the supporting characters are a lot more dynamic, who themselves pale by comparison with various memorable one-shot characters who are usually eaten at the end of their chapter.
