YMMV / The House of Rothschild

  • Fair for Its Day: While the film was definitely very brave for its time for addressing themes of anti-Semitism in a time where Hollywood in general kept on its tip-toes to avoid offending the film censors of Nazi Germany out of fear for losing the German market, it still uncritically portrays and furthers quite a few ugly stereotypes about Jewish people, dipping into All Jews Are Cheapskates and even Greedy Jew, most controversially showing the Rothschild family as bribing the gentile government officials to avoid paying taxes. Said scene was even stolen wholesale and used in the infamous Nazi propaganda film, The Eternal Jew from 1940.
