• Recycled Soundtrack: In one of the few such cases in Sondheim's career, the opening "Invocation" began life as the opening of Sondheim and Shevelove's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, where it was cut and replaced by "Comedy Tonight."
• Tear Jerker - Ariadne. The whole thing is incredibly sad, as Dionysus sings about how he once was Happily Married and then his wife, as a mortal, died.
