YMMV / The Dancing Pig

Go To

  • Accidental Nightmare Fuel: At the time, the pig costume was extremely impressive, and audiences laughed at the antics of the pig and lady. Nowadays the effect, while still impressive, comes off as creepy and the way the pig sneers at the camera, not to mention when it sticks its tongue out it looks... off.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Is the pig a rude nuisance or is he trying to be polite when asking for food? Some of his actions suggest the former rather than the latter, however he does seem to be sorry and is much more jovial later on.
    • Is the woman a bully who just wants to make fun of/humiliate the pig, or is she simply revealing the pig for what he really is?
  • Memetic Mutation: The film was mostly forgotten over the years, that is until it was circulated online as a creepy internet video. The meme status primarily came from the pig himself and how bizarre the costume looked.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The film has become rather infamous for its unintentionally scary visuals, and the lack of music in most uploads adds to its disturbing nature. There’s a reason the film became as notable as it did.
    • For the most part, the film keeps to a static shot of the stage with very few jumpcuts in between. That is until the very end when we see the notorious up-close shot of the pig as it makes several unsettling movements before winking at the viewer.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: Nightmare Fuel aside, the complex puppeteering for the pig (is truly impressive, right down ro movable eyes and ears. The best part is when you remember since this was the early 1900's, meaning it was all done literally by hand.
