- Hilarious in Hindsight: The Broadway version of the play featured Jeremy Brett as Watson. Yes, that Jeremy Brett, the one who played Holmes in the Sherlock Holmes Granada series.
- Questionable Casting: Charlton Heston as Sherlock Holmes!? Talented as Charlton Heston was, he just wasn't the type to play Holmes, not to mention he was 68, so he was just a bit too old for the part.
- Values Dissonance: At one point Holmes disguises himself as a Chinaman who runs an opium den, in such a stereotypical fashion it would not go over today.
