- Game-Breaker: Provided you avoid instant death by contact damage until you can upgrade his terrible health, Preacher's first aid and shield specials make the game a breeze.
- God Damned Bats: Jumping enemies, particularly the giant toads in 1-2 and 1-3.
- Scrappy Mechanic: Mainly the fact that you're forced to drag along a computer-controlled sidekick in the single player campaign, who you're forced to pay to ressurect when they inevitably get killed due to mediocre AI. A common work-around is starting a Two Player game, deliberately killing the second player at the start, and then declining to resurrect them between levels.
- Sequelitis: The Chaos Engine 2 is widely considered a huge step down from the original, due to completely abandoning most of the core gameplay.
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The Chaos Engine 2, which didn't even occupy the same genre as the original.
