- Americans Hate Tingle: Massively successful in their native United Kingdom, not so much in the United States, although they do have a sizable American cult following.
- Archive Panic: In addition to releasing ten studio albums, the band had a tradition of releasing songs cut from their albums along with live versions as B-sides to their 34 singles, which were 102 songs in total.
- First Installment Wins: Many consider Welcome to the Beautiful South to be their best album.
- Heartwarming Moments: Jacqui left the band to look after her autistic son. Years later, Paul tracked her down on Facebook after a decade without contact and gave her an open invitation to record again. Their 2014 album What Have We Become? was the result, and kickstarted a sequence of four hit LPs the pair would produce over the next few years culminating in 2020's Manchester Calling going to Number One — the pair's first chart-topper since the Beautiful South's Quench 22 years earlier.
- Signature Song: "A Little Time" for the Briana Corrigan era; "Rotterdam (Or Anywhere)" for the Jacqui Abbott era.
- Spiritual Successor: The band was seen as this to Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway's previous band The Housemartins with tackling on similar subjects, though its musical style was pop-oriented in comparison to the Housemartins' indie-oriented musical style.
- Paul and Jacqui's musical career as a duo has been seen as this to the band.
