• Designated Hero: Ryu is a complete Jerkass in this series who treats Chun-Li like crap (at one point he insults her while she's coming on to him). He talks rudely of Ken just because Ken retired from fighting and sought a different career and is just generally unpleasant. He even gets called out on his behavior by Chun-Li.
• He's Just Hiding: Ken was originally planned to be revealed to be Not Quite Dead. The Brazilian continuation initially tried to continue the story in at least Broad Strokes, and hinted at such a development. Later issues ditch Malibu's continuity entirely and Ken is alive and well.
• Nightmare Fuel: Just the fact that Ken gets scalped should count. The worst thing is that had the comic continued, it would've revealed that he didn't die from that. He still got horribly disfigured.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Capcom felt this way at least, since besides changing the characterization of many characters, they also added some controversial changes as killing Ken in a very brutal way.
