• Harsher in Hindsight: Hatil being pressured into euthanasia by his family because he became disabled may have seemed over-the-top at the time, but in the 2020s, Canada passed a law extending euthanasia to disabled as well as terminally ill people. This was decried by the disabled community for risking the exact kind of abuse Hatil suffered in this episode. And there have been at least two cases of disabled people choosing to die because the government denied them any other assistance.
