- Aluminum Christmas Trees: Rain made of glass sounds like standard plot-convenient sci-fi weather, but at least one known exoplanet has that exact weather. (It should go without saying that such a planet would not otherwise have a breathable, oxygen atmosphere as the planet in this episode does.)
- I Knew It!: Fans long speculated that Mariner's age and posting to DS9 (revealed in S2) would have her fighting in the Dominion War. This episode confirms it.
- Unexpected Character:
- Okay, who in the hell could have guessed that Nick Locarno was behind the attacks? (This one is such a deep cut that newer fans might be thinking "Who the hell is Nick Locarno?")
- To a lesser extent, the two stranded Cardassians, since none of their ships were said to have been attacked.
