YMMV / Salome (1953)

Go To

  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Rita Hayworth does the Dance of the Seven Veils - a striptease in which she removes each of the seven veils she's covering herself with. She doesn't finish and what she's wearing by the end is only mildly risque by 1950s standards, but it's what the film is best remembered for.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The movie did extremely well in France, with over three million admissions reported there.
  • Older Than They Think: Several years previously, the film Sunset Boulevard featured a subplot of Norma Desmond attempting to write a Salome film as her big comeback.
  • Signature Scene: The 'Dance of the Seven Veils' is of course the movie's most memorable moment. The filmmakers were well aware it would be, as that was originally going to be the movie's subtitle, and Rita Hayworth called the dance the most demanding of her career.
