YMMV / Sailor Moon Ep 46 Usagis Eternal Wish A Brand New Life

  • Broken Base: Was "Day Of Destiny" an understandable Woolseyism for its time or a horrific butchered mockery of the original episode?
  • Critical Dissonance: The DIC adaptation "Day Of Destiny" is notorious among fans for its severe Bowdlerization and cited as one of the major black marks on the adaptation at least among purist fans. Its the highest rated episode on IMDB. At 8.4/10.
  • Remade and Improved: The Fan Edit of the DIC version eliminates most of the cuts and edits of the original edited version to make it more in line with the Japanese original, while also keeping all of its good points like DIC's soundtrack, as well as "Carry On".
  • Woolseyism: Two for the price of one in hindsight, depending on who you ask.
    • For some, the highly controversial change by DIC to the entire cast surviving the battle rather than dying and being resurrected), arguably works better in the long run compared to the original episode, which was written with the idea of ending the anime. By the time Sailor Moon finished its first dub season in North America (1995), Super S (The fourth season) was already airing in Japan. Defenders say keeping the context of the original likely would've created a very awkward sell at the time to just suddenly and brutally kill off the cast, even if temporary, considering there are several more episodes of the series afterwards, and Sailor Moon comes back anyway in the first episode of the next season.
    • Considering the (dead) Inner Guardians end up returning as ghosts to help Usagi anyway in the original version, the change to the Scouts not dying at all and arriving in the nick of time to help Serena fight off Queen Beryl still arguably works the same in the DIC Dub. Though at the same time, Critics of the dub will decry the change for taking away the tear-jerking aspect of the original to make it accessible to children.
