YMMV / Road House (2024)

• He Really Can Act: Regarding Conor McGregor’s debut in the big screen. While there are scenes that are deemed over the top, his portrayal of Knox as an unhinged and arrogant brute is enjoyed by both movie fans and MMA fans alike. Said over the top scenes also endeared him more to audiences, especially those who know how he acts in real life.
• Love to Hate: While Knox is clearly an unhinged lunatic who'll kill someone for the pettiest reasons imaginable, Conor McGregor is having such a blast in the role that he becomes all the more fun to watch.
• Special Effect Failure: The action is saturated with questionable CGI. Even simple bar fights look like Fighting Games. This is primarily due to full CGI doubles being used for the majority of fight scenes.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: At one point, it appears that Frankie is barely making any money from the bar as she is shown putting most of the cash she has into Dalton's salary, which could add another layer into her intention of keeping the Road House open, as it already looks like a declining spot in clientele that gets trashed every night on top of that. Not only it would help develop her character's stubbornness and motivation more than the one exposition scene we get, it would give more importance to her and to the titular Road House as an iconic place that would disappear to give room for the generic resort Brandt wants, as it isn't even the reason for the final confrontation, for Dalton was leaving already when he saw the damage done to Charlie's bookstore. But it seems she has a very large bank account and apparently it won't be an issue to rebuild it back again after the events at the end of the movie, which raises the question of why didn't she just cut a deal with Brandt for the location in the first place and used the money to rebuild it elsewhere.
  • If Frankie *does* have a very large bank account, then Brandt's money isn't enough motivation to move. Her exposition basically shows that her reasons for having The Road House at all are sentimental, tied to Glass Key and her family. A better question would be: could she have made a deal with Brandt to build his property *around* The Road House, or even incorporate it, intact, as part of the resort?
