- Ass Pull: The last few chapters of the book have received a lot of criticism for being an obviously tacked-on Deus ex Machina, where Dorothy and the Wizard show up and rescue our heroes with little to no effort. This was done to make the standalone novel qualify as an Oz book, but it's not a very satisfactory resolution to the plot.
