- Alas, Poor Villain: The Prince, after he not only breaks down upon realizing he almost killed his love, but also seeing her reject him for The Wizard, just as karma is about to catch up with him.
- Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory: Did the mother dragon in the Ambiguous Ending incinerate the Prince for murdering her child and restore her baby? Or, did she reincarnate that man to become her new child and replace the one she lost? You the viewer, decide.
- Moral Event Horizon: The Prince crosses this at the start of the film by killing the baby dragon.

- The Woobie: The Princess. She was completely innocent in this, but she ends being the one turned into a dragon, hunted down, and almost slain by the man she loved.
