YMMV / Rap Rat

Go To

  • Game-Breaker: Late in the tape, Rap Rat will make a player skip a number of turns based on their age. While this might work with the kid demographic the game was targeted for, any adults who are, for example, playing with their kids, are essentially out of the game at that point if they're unfortunate enough.
  • Nightmare Fuel: There's something unsettling about Rap Rat's jerky, frantic movements, his abrasive attitude, his unintentionally creepy design, the strange dark scenery and his strange way of rapping. No wonder it inspired a creepypasta.
  • Popular Game Variant: If reviews on Board Game Geek are any indication, it's very common for players to ignore the VHS portion of the game, or make it optional, as it disrupts the game way too much. The game can be played just fine without it anyway, as Rap Rat himself only rarely interacts with the board game itself, and whatever effects it has on gameplay are negligible at best.
  • So Bad, It's Good: The game's attempts at being Totally Radical plus Rap Rat's corny rapping and the bizarre editing can be enjoyed ironically.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The game's Totally Radical atmosphere and watered-down rap elements date the game to the early 90s.
  • Watch It for the Meme: The game got famous for a creepypasta that was inspired by it, and many readers would then check out the VHS video transfers online.
