YMMV / Pikuniku

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Pikuniku is pretty bizarre, and yet it still manages to have some weird moments that stand above the rest.
    • The dancing bugs found throughout the island, as funny as they may be, don't have any relevance to the plot whatsoever.
    • Toastopia fits the bill as well. What else would you expect from a dimension filled with toasters ruled by a giant slice of toast?
  • Cry for the Devil: Mr. Sunshine is absolutely a Corrupt Corporate Executive, but it's hard not to feel bad for him after learning that his village was destroyed and he's the Last of His Kind.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: One of the main criticisms, as the game can be beaten in around 3 hours. The sidequests aren't much better/longer.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Part way through the mine segment, you come across a place filled with old, deteriorating buildings and what resembles Sunshine Inc.'s robots... except they aren't. According to the worm, the place was once a village that was destroyed in an explosion. Those aren't robots, they're the charred corpses of people.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • At the start of the game, the Ghost asks you to send them a postcard. While there's a postcard you can buy a postcard at the Forest Town shop, there's no way to actually give it to them.
    • The beach area, which is only accessible after getting the water hat. You'd think there would be more to do there, but alas, the only thing to collect there is a statue.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: Played straight with the story mode, which contains profanity and, at one point, a bunch of charred corpses. Averted with the co-op mode, which doesn't have anything that's not okay for kids.
