• Base-Breaking Character: Dexter. A lot of people hate him for being superficial and a layabout, not to mention sponging off his parents. Others point to his Character Development improving him and arguing that the point of the story is for him to mature.
• Questionable Casting: Fans of the book weren't happy with the Adaptational Attractiveness given to Emma - who is frumpy and wears glasses - and is played by Anne Hathaway. General consensus is that she looked far too glamorous.
• Visual Effects of Awesome: The movie employs good use of make-up, hairstyles and other tricks to convincingly age the characters over a twenty year period.
