YMMV / Once Upon a Time S5 E13 "Labor of Love"

  • Character Rerailment: Big time for Snow. She is the centre of the action, a flashback touches on how she became a hero in the first place, and she's the one who ultimately convinces them to save the day. She even lampshades the Flanderization of her only rattling off speeches about hope she went through in the last two seasons. As one reviewer put it:
"This essentially recaptured that adventurous, yet emotionally grounded feeling of the first two seasons."
  • Genius Bonus: Herc's unfinished business involving getting a second chance to save Megara could be a little nod to the original mythology - where (thanks to Mind Rape by Hera) he was the one who killed her.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Before crossing over, Hercules asks Snow if she's sure they don't want him to stick around. This is quite prophetic of fans wishing to have more of him.
  • Questionable Casting: Subverted. Jonathan Whitesell got some criticism for not being beefy enough to play Hercules. But given that finding someone that size - who can also act - greatly dilutes the choices, he won plenty of people over with his performance.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: While the episode and the story was well-received, Hercules and Megara are sent off to Olympus at the end - never to appear on the show again.
