- First Installment Wins: Of the six albums Jackson released under Epic records, Off the Wall is generally considered to be at the very least one of the best. While Thriller and Bad are his most famous and successful works, there's also a growing movement of fans and critics (including Quincy Jones himself) who declare Off the Wall to be superior to both albums.
- Sequel Displacement: Despite being his fifth solo release, this is often informally referred to as Jackson's first solo album, being his first with Epic records, and the first on which he had creative control away from the Motown label as a songwriter.
