• Audience-Alienating Era: The original fic was supposed to be only a Castlevania story, and therefore was only listed in the Castlevania section of fanfiction.net. However, the ever increasing crossover elements with Shin Megami Tensei, which was not widely known at the time, led to several people in the latter chapters complaining that the crossover elements - which they did not sign up for - overshadowed the Castlevania ones, especially the continuous introductions of crossover characters. Funnily enough, this alienation was solved with the remakes, which are listed as crossovers.
• Nightmare Fuel: In an extra in A Game of Cat And Cat, someone sees something disgusting, saying it's the worst they've ever seen, and passingly asks the cast whether they agree. The problem is that whoever it is, they're asking it to people who have experienced several lifetimes of horror, triggering a series of flashbacks:
  • Soma remembers being forced to follow groups of pale, spongy humanoids, too scared to even attack them, until he sees them fuse together into a gigantic, bloodless brain - Legion.
  • Naoki remembers the massacre of the Manikins at Mifunashiro, and the descent of the Archangels.
  • Doctor Dude remembers his coworker transforming into a monster and brutally killing and devouring a nurse, while he's helpless with a bullet to the spine. Not even the fact it's a Shout-Out to Troll 2 makes it any less macabre.
  • Flynn and Isabeau remember the neurotransmitter-harvesting operation at Reverse Hills.
  • Kazuya remembers decapitating the Chaos Hero.
  • Mina remembers confronting her first group of zombies and being forced to shoot them.
  • Aoi remembers the blue sea surrounding the Basilica... and the fact there's still a city under it, below water so crystal pure, she could still see the corpses at the bottom.
  • Roland remembers the Industrialized Evil cleanliness and efficiency of the Manufacturing Plant, and the process of rendering demon and human corpses into canned meat.
  • It isn't shown what Hammer remembers, but it's implied it has to do with his military background and his experience in war.
  • Nanashi remembers his many, many deaths, and how he powered past the pain... only to quietly break upon finding his sister reduced to Ludicrous Gibs.
  • Julius remembers his friend dying and rising as a zombie, so fresh he might still have been mistaken for a wounded human, and putting him to rest with the Vampire Killer.
  • It isn't shown what Hijiri remembers...
    • Unsurprisingly, everyone agrees that no, whatever it is, it isn't the worst.
