YMMV / Nanook of the North

Go To

  • Fair for Its Day: The film's portrayal of the Inuk and their culture is rather patronizing and not at all an accurate display to what 1920's life was like for them (which wasn't all that different from non-native life in the 1920's). That said, this film was one of the first positive representations of any indigenous Americans in film. On top of using actual indigenous people to portray Nanook and his family, instead of using Brown Face, as was common then.
  • Memetic Mutation: The scene where Nanook sticks his head out of the igloo after carving a hole in it, has gained its share of viewers.
