• Hilarious in Hindsight: As someone pointed out, Starla Shine in this fic and En Shi from Mykan's are rather similar.
• Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: The story's version of Lightning Dawn, who learns to embrace Twilight's virtues of friendship and tries to become better, has been seen as an improvement by the readers.
• Take That, Scrappy!: Considering how disliked he is in Starfleet Magic, it's hard to see Rhymey's death at the hands of the Sentinels as anything else but this.
• Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Just like the base fic, because the setting is so utterly bleak and genuinely likable characters are so few and far between (with most of them being marked for death, no less), this trope can set in at times.
