YMMV / Mrs. Munger's Class

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice: "Gerald the Gerbil", where Mrs. Munger announces the death of the class' beloved gerbil, but instead the normally upsetting moment is lost on the class when the twins fail to understand what Mrs. Munger meant when she said he "passed away". It comes around to being darkly funny when the class takes shots at their naivete.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: If the show is remembered for anything, it's for the class action lawsuit.
  • Unintentional Uncanny Valley: The characters are all pictures of real people, but distorted and manipulated by computers. The results can get very Uncanny.
  • Values Dissonance:
    • The African-American who filed the class action lawsuit was offended when he found out that his photo was used—without his permission—to voice a character with speech patterns based on Buckwheat. Such a caricature would be even less tolerable today.
    • Grace is mercilessly picked on by the other students for her weight, in ways that verge dangerously close to bullying. They probably wouldn't get away with playing such a thing for laughs nowadays, when the harmfulness of bullying is more well understood.
